The scoping review method was used in this study, to cartographize the existing literature, identify research gaps, and formulate recommendations for more effective physical education practices as well as for future research. The research identification was determined to be how self-efficacy and motivation affect students' participation and achievement in physical education. The literature search came from PubMed, Education Resources Information Center (ERIC), PsycINFO, Scopus, Web of Science and Google Scholar with various keywords that have been determined. While the criteria for articles are discussing self-efficacy or motivation in the context of physical education, studies conducted on elementary, junior high, or senior high school students, articles in English, articles published between 2015 - 2025, articles have open access. The results of this study found a total of 8 articles that were suitable for data synthesis and analysis. This research describes demonstrates the importance of innovation in physical education teaching methods to increase students' self-efficacy and motivation. The use of exergames, hybrid pedagogical models such as Teaching Games for Understanding (TGfU) and Sport Education (SE), and increased Physical Education (PE) sessions had a positive impact on student engagement and achievement. However, long-term evaluation and further research with longitudinal designs and objective measurement instruments are needed to overcome the methodological limitations of previous studies. Educators need to implement innovative methods that support students' intrinsic motivation and improved motor competence.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to provide broad and in-depth information on how extracurricular sports can be utilized for character development and student welfare in secondary schools. This research method uses scoping review, and literature search using databases such as PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar with predetermined keywords. The inclusion criteria were articles written 1) in English, 2) have open access, 3) the sample is students in secondary school, 4) the article publication is 2020 - 2024 which focuses on extracurricular sports programs and their impact on students. The results of this study successfully analyzed 7 scientific articles with an average sample age of 12 - 18 years, which had been systematically selected. Extracurricular sports have great potential to improve students' character and well-being. Analysis of various interventions in the seven studies reviewed showed a diversity of approaches, ranging from passive observation of student participation to the implementation of structured sports programs such as step aerobics programs or Olympic education programs. Despite the variation in interventions, findings consistently highlight the importance of comprehensive support from schools, including adequate resource allocation, ongoing teacher training, and inclusive and diverse program design. Ongoing evaluation and monitoring are also crucial to ensure program effectiveness and make necessary adjustments. Although findings consistently emphasize the importance of ongoing support and evaluation, methodological limitations and literature coverage limit the generalizability of the findings. Further research is needed to confirm the results and provide a more comprehensive understanding.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine of implementation the traditional game of the ‘ular naga’ in improving the locomotor movement of kindergarten children aged 4-5 years. This type of research is a quasi-experimental with pretest-posttest. Then the sample consisted of 64 children aged 4-5 years from kindergartens in Paguyangan District, Brebes, Indonesia. There are 32 children who receive treatment using the traditional game 'ular naga' or the experimental group (EG) and 32 children with games that are played freely or the control group (CG). The intervention was carried out for 8 weeks with 2 meetings each week, on Tuesday and Friday, starting at 07.30 - 09.00. Locomotor movement assessment using a validated rubik (table 1). The results of the t-test are EG and CG have an effect on locomotor movement (EG = sig. 0,000 and CG = sig. 0,037). However, the independent t-test showed sig. 0.000 which means that the experimental group (EG) using the traditional 'ular naga' game is recommended to improve locomotor skills in kindergarten children aged 4-5 years. Future research can explore the influence of other traditional games, utilize technology to measure motor development in more detail, and expand the duration of observation to see long-term effects.
