Abstract

The aim of the study was to examine the effect of liquidity on the performance of banks listed on the Ghana Stock Exchange. The study employed annual panel data of 8 out of the 9 banks listed on the Ghana Stock Exchange. The random effect model was used with the aid of Hausman test. The data used for the study spans from 2015 to 2019. The study found among other things that 34.8% variation in the return on asset of banks listed on the Ghana Stock Exchange can be explained by sales growth rate, firm size and liquidity. The study revealed that liquidity and sales growth do not have any statistically significant effect on the profitability of banks listed on the Ghana Stock Exchange. However, the size of a bank in terms of its total assets has a significant effect on the profitability of banks listed on the Ghana Stock Exchange. The study finds that liquidity and sales growth do not have any statistically significant effect on the profitability of banks listed on the Ghana Stock Exchange, the size of a bank has statistically significant effect on the return on assets of banks listed on the Ghana Stock Exchange. It was recommended that banks listed on the GSE must work on reducing their interest expense to enhance their liquidity positions. Managers of banks listed on the GSE must work at increasing their asset base as there exists a significant relationship between size and profitability

Abstract

The study was to analysed the determinants of stability of banks listed on the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE). The study used 8 of the 9 banks listed on the Ghana Stock Exchange for the study. The study used annual data of the sampled banks on the GSE from 2015 to 2019. Panel regression analysis was used to unravel the determinants of bank stability in Ghana. The study found that Income diversity, the size of a bank, inflation, regulation and gross domestic product do not determine the stability of banks listed on the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE). A weak positive relationship was found between income diversity, the size of a bank, inflation, regulation and gross domestic product and the stability of banks listed on the Ghana Stock Exchange. The study concluded that income diversity, size of a bank, inflation rate in the country, the gross domestic product do not determine the stability of banks listed on the Ghana Stock Exchange. The study makes the following recommendations. Future studies to be conducted into the determinants of bank stability using variables. The Bank of Ghana (BoG) and other bodies to pay more attention to other factors other than size, income diversity, inflation, regulation, gross domestic product in their bid to enhancing banking stability as these factors do not affect the stability of banks in Ghana

Abstract

The study was to establish the effect of the financial management practices on the operational performance of the Ghana Police force in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. The study used a descriptive survey design of the quantitative approach. It targeted staff of Ghana Police Service in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. The study employed census and questionnaire was employed to gather data from them. The questionnaire was analysed descriptively using frequencies and percentages with the aid of Statistical Package for Service Solution version 26. The study found that effective financial management practices have assisted in reducing, crime apprehension and prosecution, crime rate, crime detection and prevention, protection of life and property, as well as peace and tranquility. Factors that hinder the effective financial management practices in the Ghana Police force included; political changes/interference, timeliness of resources and finance, problems of accountability and transparency, and problems of bureaucracy and inefficiency. Therefore, the study recommended that the Ghana Police Service should ensure that liquidity policy is reviewed periodically. Also, the Ghana Police Service should strengthen the system of supervision for cash collection and disbursement. Moreover, the Ghana Police Service should ensure that there is analysis of performance and plans are compared to actual plans with budget. Furthermore, the Ministry of finance in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service should release resources and finance on time. Lastly, the Ghana Police Service should ensure that there is accountability and transparency as well as reducing the bureaucracy and inefficiency

Abstract

Otitis media is an inflammation of the middle ear mucosa presenting with symptoms of otalgia, fever, ear tugging, frequent crying at night and ear discharge through a tympanic membrane perforation. Globally, otitis media is a common health problem among children and causes an unpleasant feeling and complications to children. The purpose of this study is to determine knowledge, perception and attitude on otitis media among parents of children five years and below who seek health care at Abuakwa Polyclinic. This study used a quantitative cross-sectional design and 114 parents of children 5 years and below were recruited using non-probability method of convenient sampling. The findings suggest that the surveyed parents had a reasonable level of knowledge regarding otitis media. They generally understood that it is an infection and inflammation of the middle ear, recognized common risk factors, and can identify the typical clinical manifestations. The findings reveal varied perceptions and knowledge among parents regarding otitis media. While there is generally a good understanding of certain aspects such as causative organisms, clinical manifestations, and complications, there are also areas where misconceptions or uncertainty exist, such as the need for antibiotics and the long-term prognosis of the condition. The findings highlight the diverse attitudes of parents towards otitis media. A significant number of parents demonstrate a proactive approach by seeking prompt treatment and opting for hospital care, there are also variations in treatment preferences, with a minority favoring traditional or alternative methods. Factors such as accessibility, waiting times, previous experience, financial constraints, treatment effectiveness were socio-economic factors influencing parents attitude and their choice of where to seek care. The study recommends that ENT professionals in collaboration with the district public health team are to initiate and implement health education programs on otitis media to create more awareness among parents with children 5 years and below

Abstract

The study examined the effect of creative accounting on the performance of commercial banks listed on the Ghana Stock Exchange. The research design chosen for this study is an ex-post facto research design, which involves examining facts that have already occurred without any interference. The research approach adopted is quantitative, focusing on objective measurements and statistical analysis of data collected through surveys. The study relies on secondary data, specifically financial reports of deposit money banks listed on the Ghana Stock Exchange. The target population includes all the listed commercial banks on the exchange. The sample size consists of 8 out of the 9 commercial banks selected based on their up-to-date financial reports. The data analysis was done with the aid of SPSS software, employing descriptive and inferential statistical techniques such as multiple regression was used to determine the cause and effect relationship among variables. The study found that there was a strong positive link among a bank's size, creative accounting and sales growth and its return on assets and return on equity. Also, SIZE and SG positively affect the profitability (ROA and ROE) of the listed firms on the GSE. However, Creative Accounting negatively affects profitability (ROA and ROE). Therefore, ccommercial banks should be critical regarding on issues or items that they classified under creative accounting. Also, commercial banks should develop strategies to lure many shareholders to invest in the banks in order to improve upon their performance. Moreover, there is urgent need for monitoring companies’ activities in order to raise the quality of financial reporting in Ghana. This can be achieved in determining which accounting manipulation is kept within the limits of legality. Lastly, commercial banks should strengthen their internal control systems in order to deal with issues of creative accounting and misleading financial reports.

Abstract

This study sought to determine the influence of interest rate on demand for loans among Rural Banks in Ghana. The study adopts an explanatory design of the quantitative approach. Secondary data from the Atiwa Rural Bank PLC database was used. The data were analysed using frequencies and percentages. Also, binary logistic and linear regression were used in analysing the relationship among the key variables of this research. The study found that interest rate of Atiwa Rural Bank PLC was rated as moderate while repayment status was high. There were differences between the category of the respondents and the repayment status. More males repay their loans as compared to females and groups. Also, differences existed between the employment status of the respondents and the repayment status. Moreover, insignificant differences were identified between the employment status of the respondents and the repayment status. Interest rate affects loan period positively. Also, a strong positive correlation between interest rate and loan period was determined. Interest rate affects amount of facility negatively. Moreover, credit facility with high interest rate is 1.020 times more likely to default in paying back the credit facility as compared to respondents who obtained their credit facility as a moderate or low interest rate. Increasing interest rate was associated with low or default in repayment of credit facility. The study therefore, recommend that management of the Atiwa Rural Bank PLC put up measures to able to track and retrieve all small amount of facility or loans given to clients. Also, the management of the Atiwa Rural Bank PLC should target more salaried workers and loans used for emergency services such as medical bills, school fees among others in order to reduce Non-Performing Loans (NPL). Moreover, the management of the Atiwa rural bank should improve upon the mechanisms implemented regarding giving of group loans and repayment issues.
