Abstract

Purpose:This study examines the thoughts of Mohammed Arkoun in the context of modern Islamic intellectual developments, which offer a critical and rational approach to freeing Muslims from a dogmatic and literal understanding of religious texts.Methodology:Arkoun emphasizes the importance of rationality and deconstruction of traditional thought to open up a more dynamic and contextual interpretation space. He also advocates pluralism and interfaith dialogue as a response to global challenges and proposes a reinterpretation of Islamic history with a more inclusive perspective.Findings:This study divides Arkoun's thoughts into three main aspects: first, a rational and critical approach to understanding Islam contextually in order to remain relevant and contribute to a just and tolerant society; second, deconstruction of traditional Islamic thought by rejecting dogmatic rigidity and integrating science into religious interpretation; third, promotion of pluralism and interfaith dialogue to build a more inclusive Islam, with educational reform as the key to fostering social harmony.Implication:Through his thoughts, Arkoun seeks to help Muslims adapt to modern developments without losing the essence of religious teachings.

Abstract

Public service is an important aspect of the government system that aims to effectively, efficiently, and transparently meet the community's needs. The Office of Religious Affairs (KUA), an institution under the Ministry of Religion, is central to providing religious services, including marriage administration, religious guidance, and family consultation. This study aims to evaluate the quality of service at the KUA Arungkeke District based on the SERVQUAL theory approach, which includes five dimensions: physical evidence, reliability, Responsiveness, Assurance, and Empathy. The research method used is descriptive qualitative, with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. The study results indicate that services at the KUA Arungkeke District have generally run well, as seen by adequate facilities, employee responsiveness, and friendly and professional attitudes toward serving the community. However, several obstacles affect the quality of service, such as limited administrative equipment, delays in issuing marriage certificates due to incomplete files, and a Lack of public understanding of service procedures. However, driving factors like comfortable service spaces, reliable administrative procedures, and information transparency also increase public trust and satisfaction with the services provided. This research is expected to be used as evaluation material for the Arungkeke District KUA and provide recommendations for improving the quality of public services in the religious sector.

Abstract

This study aims to uncover the language strategies of resistance used by Wiji Thukul in his poem Nyanyian Akar Rumput through a critical discourse analysis approach. Data obtained from the poem's text as the primary source are analyzed using Fairclough's critical discourse analysis framework, which encompasses aspects of text, discourse practice, and social practice. The results of the study indicate that the symbol "grassroots" represents the common people who possess collective resilience and strength in facing it. Metaphors are used to construct an image of injustice while simultaneously sowing a spirit of resistance, while calls and appeals function to form a collective awareness. The choice of simple yet meaningful diction strengthens the emotional connection between the poet and his readers. These findings emphasize that language in Nyanyian Akar Rumput serves not only as a means of aesthetic expression but also as a political instrument to articulate a counter-discourse against the dominance of power and drive social change.

Abstract

Abstract

This study examines the perceptions of Muslim communities toward the establishment of non-Muslim places of worship in Bangkala District, Jeneponto Regency. The background of the research is the social and religious homogeneity of the Muslim majority in the region, which influences their acceptance of religious diversity, especially regarding minority groups. The study aims to identify factors that shape Muslim perceptions and to explore strategies to ensure harmonious coexistence. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, using primary data collected through interviews and observations with local government officials, religious leaders, youth figures, Muslim residents, and non-Muslim residents. Secondary data were obtained from literature, regulations, and relevant reports. The analysis involved data categorization, synthesis, and interpretation to draw meaningful conclusions. The findings indicate that Muslim perceptions are influenced by religious identity, cultural traditions, concerns about social change, location, and the intensity of worship practices by non-Muslims. Despite initial caution, the community shows conditional tolerance, particularly if non-Muslims comply with the requirements of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, including having a verified list of non-Muslim residents and support from at least 60 Muslim community members. The study suggests that open dialogue, education on religious tolerance, strategic site selection, regulatory compliance, and joint social activities can facilitate peaceful coexistence. These results have implications for local policy-making, promoting inclusive practices while respecting the dominant religious identity. The study concludes that with adherence to legal provisions and mutual respect, the establishment of non-Muslim places of worship can be managed harmoniously in a predominantly Muslim community
