Abstract

This research examines the role of Sahabat Yatim Medan Aksara Orphanage in fostering the potential and self-confidence of foster children. Orphans often face emotional, social, and educational challenges due to the loss of a parental figure. This qualitative research uses in-depth interviews and direct observation methods involving foster children, staff, and orphanage facilities. The results showed that the orphanage programs are designed to meet the physical, social, and emotional needs of the children through sports activities, arts, religious education, and emotional support from the caregivers. Children are given the opportunity to explore their interests and talents, improving their self-confidence and academic performance. Adequate facilities such as study rooms, a small library, and computers support their learning process. This study concludes that Sahabat Yatim Medan Aksara Orphanage plays an important role in creating a safe and supportive environment for children's development. The study implies the importance of developing skills training programs and improving educational facilities to ensure the children's future success.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the factors that influence the Human Development Index (HDI) in the province of West Kalimantan. The variables analyzed in this study include Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP), the Percentage of Poor Population (PPP), the Open Unemployment Rate (OUR), and the Average Length of Schooling (ALS). The data used in this study covers observations from 2019 to 2023, with a total of 75 districts/cities in West Kalimantan. Through multiple linear regression analysis, this study found that GRDP and ALS have a significant impact on HDI, while PPP and OUR show a negative relationship with HDI, although OUR has a significant influence. The regression model developed explains about 88.59% of the variation in HDI in this province, indicating that economic and social variables play a significant role in improving the quality of life. This study also conducted classical assumption tests, including linearity, homoscedasticity, and residual normality, all of which show that the regression model used meets the basic assumptions. The findings of this study are expected to provide insights for policymakers in designing more effective development strategies to improve HDI in West Kalimantan.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the comparison of life insurance premiums calculated using a deterministic interest rate model and a stochastic model based on Vasicek. Differences in interest rate assumptions are evaluated based on their impact on the Expected Present Value (EPV) and the resulting premium. The deterministic approach uses a constant interest rate of 4.93% based on the average BI Rate for the 2016–2025 period, while the stochastic approach applies the Vasicek model with Monte Carlo simulation to represent interest rate fluctuations. The data used include historical interest rates and the 2019 Indonesian Mortality Table (TMI). The results show that the EPV Benefit in the Vasicek model is 1.16% higher than the deterministic model, which results in a premium increase of 0.36% (Rp 173,592 compared to Rp 172,967). This relatively small difference indicates that the premium sensitivity to interest rate changes in this study is relatively low. This study confirms that the Vasicek model provides more realistic estimates because it captures interest rate dynamics. However, the significance of the differences is significantly influenced by the level of volatility. Therefore, the use of stochastic models in premium determination becomes more relevant in conditions of highly fluctuating interest rates.
