<![CDATA[ABSTRACT Composite resin materials are most widely used in dentistry today, to fill anterior and posterior teeth. The properties of composite resin are physical properties, mechanical properties, and chemical properties. The properties of composite resin can be affected by low pH (acid). The effect of acidic pH can cause matrix degradation and erosion of composite resin, thus affecting compressive strength, surface hardness, and wear rates. Various previous studies have proven the effect of acidic pH on the mechanical properties of composite resin. The purpose of writing this literature study is to determine how acidic pH affects the mechanical properties of composite resin on compressive strength, surface hardness, and wear rates of composite resin. The effect of acidic pH can cause erosion, matrix separation or hydrolytic degradation of particles/matrix. Acidic pH causes composite resin to erode, which will affect the surface and reduce hardness. Matrix degradation is the breaking of the methacrylate group in Bis-GMA because the composite resin polymer contains unstable bonds so that the matrix is increasingly broken down resulting in decreased compressive strength4. As dentists, we should take an important role in choosing composite resin materials used as filling materials. Keywords: Composite Resin, Mechanical Properties of Composite Resin, Acid pH ABSTRAK Bahan resin komposit paling banyak digunakan dibidang kedokteran gigi saat ini, untuk menumpat gigi anterior dan gigi posterior. Sifat Resin komposit yang dimiliki yaitu sifat fisik, sifat mekanik, dan sifat kimiawi. Sifat – sifat resin komposit dapat dipengaruhi oleh pH rendah (asam). Pengaruh pH asam dapat mengakibatkan degradasi matriks dan erosi pada resin komposit sehingga mempengaruhi kekuatan tekan, kekerasan permukaan, dan ketahanan terhadap Aus (Wear rates). Berbagai penelitian terdahulu membuktikan adanya pengaruh pH Asam terhadap sifat mekanik resin komposit. Tujuan penulisan studi pustaka ini adalah untuk mengetahui bagaiamana pengaruh pH asam terhadap sifat mekanik resin komposit pada kekuatan tekan, kekerasan permukaan, dan ketahanan terhadap Aus (Wear rates) resin komposit. Efek pH asam dapat menyebabkan erosi, pemisahan matriks atau degradasi hidrolitik partikel/matriks. pH asam menyebabkan resin komposit tererosi maka akan mempengaruhi permukaan dan menurunkan kekerasan. Degradasi matriks merupakan terputusnya gugus metakrilat pada Bis-GMA karena polimer resin komposit mengandung ikatan yang tidak stabil sehingga matriks semakin terurai mengakibatkan kekuatan tekan menurun. Sebagai dokter gigi, kita hendaknya mengambil peran penting dalam memilih bahan resin komposit yang digunakan sebagai bahan tumpatan.
