Abstract

Graduating on time is an obligation for every student. The final requirement of education that must be completed by students is writing thesis paper. But in reality, students still experience obstacles in their work which indicates a lack of hardiness personality. One of the factors in hardiness personality is the academic self-concept. This study aims to investigate the role of academic self-concept on hardiness personality in students who are writing thesis paper in the psychology study program at Lambung Mangkurat University. This study is a quantitative research study with cross sectional research design. The sample was selected using non-probability sampling with the type of saturated sampling in order to obtain 204 students as the subjects. Data were collected using the academic self-concept scale from Liu and Wang (2005) and Mhiya-18 from Octavia dkk (2021). The simple linear regression was employed as the analytical method. The results of the analysis showed that there was a positive role of academic self-concept on hardiness personality (R2=0.229, p<0.05); the higher the student's academic self-concept, the higher the hardiness personality in the student. Academic self-concept had a role of 22.9% in predicting hardiness personality while the rest was caused by other factors not examined.
