Abstract

This study examines the use of the types of abbreviations and the abbreviation process in the short description (caption) of the Tribun News Instagram account in January 2022. The purpose of this study is to describe the types of abbreviations and the abbreviation process in the brief description (caption) of the Tribun News Instagram account in January 2022. This study used descriptive qualitative method. The data for this research are all words, phrases and abbreviated sentences contained in the short description (caption) of the Tribun News Instagram account. The source of this research data is a brief description (caption) of the Tribun News Instagram account on January 1-January 31. The instrument used in this research is the human instrument (the researcher himself). The technique of extracting data is by reading the caption of the Tribun News Instagram account and grouping it according to the type and process of abbreviation. The data analysis technique used is the Agih method. The validity of this research technique is by means of interrater and intra rater. Based on the results of the study, it was found that in the Tribun News Instagram account there were 146 containing abbreviations and 164 abbreviation processes. First, there are 5 types of abbreviations, namely abbreviations, fragments, acronyms, contractions and letter symbols. Second, there are four abbreviation processes, namely abbreviations: preservation of the first letter of each component, preservation of the first letter by removing conjunctions, prepositions, reduplications and prepositions, articulation and words, preservation of the first two letters of a word, preservation of the first three letters of a word. , preservation of the first four letters of a word, preservation of the first and last letters of a word, and preservation of the first and last letters of the first syllable and the first letter of the second syllable. Fragmentation: fragmentation of the first syllable of a word, preservation of the first three letters of a word, preservation of the first four letters of a word, and partial removal of a word. Acronyms: perpetuation of the first syllable of each component, preservation of the first syllable of the first component and preservation of the whole word, preservation of the first three letters of each component, preservation of the first two letters of the first component and the first three letters of the second component with conjunctions, preservation of the first two letters of the first component and three letters First the second component, the sharing of letters and syllables that are difficult to formulate. Symbol of letters: symbol of letters that mark the currency. Key words: abbreviation; Instagram; types of abbreviation; linguistic; acronym.

Abstract

Based on research on language variations in the description of the Tarbiyah Faculty of IAI AL-Qolam Malang. So, it can be concluded that the research inludes language variations in terms of formality which are included in the types of official varietu, frozen variety, business variety, intimae style, and relaxed variety. Language variations in the use of Instagram social media esed by IAI Al-Qolam Malang Tarbiyah Faculty lecturers are language variations in terms of formality which fall into the types of business variety, relaxed variety ad intimate varoety. This can be seen from the words or sentences in the short description (caption) of the Instagram account of the Tarbiyah Faculty lecturer at IAI Al-Qolam Malang.

Abstract

This study examines the use of language in beauty product advertisements on TikTok, specifically focusing on the Skintific brand. The research aims to analyze how the language in these advertisements affects the audience's reception of the message. Utilizing a pragmatic approach, the study investigates the persuasive language techniques employed in TikTok advertisements, such as the use of imperative sentences, persuasive claims, and product comparisons. Through a qualitative analysis of selected Skintific ads, this research identifies key linguistic strategies that enhance product appeal and motivate audience behavior, particularly in relation to purchase decisions. The findings reveal that the use of persuasive language, such as terms highlighting product effectiveness and safety, along with calls to action like "buy now" and "click the link in bio," plays a significant role in influencing consumer perceptions and encouraging immediate purchases. The study suggests that advertisers can further optimize their use of persuasive language to strengthen consumer trust and drive engagement on social media platforms like TikTok.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the cultural values embedded in the Ogoh-Ogoh parade tradition in Malang City and examine its implications for cultural integration in Indonesian language learning. Originally part of the Balinese Nyepi celebration, the Ogoh-Ogoh tradition has evolved and been adopted in various regions, including Malang, with its own unique local adaptations. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving cultural practitioners, educators, and local communities. The findings reveal that the Ogoh-Ogoh parade encompasses values of aesthetics, tolerance, creativity, and communal spirit, which can be meaningfully integrated into Indonesian language teaching, particularly in reinforcing cultural awareness and local wisdom. This integration enriches language learning by extending beyond linguistic competence to include character development and intercultural understanding. Therefore, local traditions such as Ogoh-Ogoh can serve as contextual, relevant, and inclusive learning resources in national education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of the use of intimidation language on children on the social media platform Instagram. Social media, particularly Instagram, has become one of the most popular platforms among teenagers and children. In the interactions that occur on this platform, the use of intimidation language often emerges, whether in the form of comments, direct messages, or posts. The intimidation language used can have negative effects on the psychological and emotional development of children. This study employs a quantitative approach with survey and interview methods to collect data from children who actively use Instagram. The results of the study indicate that the use of intimidation language has a significant impact on the psychological condition of children, reflected in increased anxiety, depression, and decreased self-esteem. Therefore, it is important for parents, educators, and social media platform administrators to raise awareness about the dangers of intimidation language and develop mechanisms to minimize its impact on children.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the representation of power and ideology in online political news texts related to the 2024 General Election in Indonesia. Using a descriptive qualitative approach and the Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) model proposed by Norman Fairclough, this research analyzes news articles from several widely accessed national online media outlets. The main focus of the study lies in identifying linguistic strategies employed by the media to construct political narratives and ideological tendencies within the texts. The findings show that the media utilize various discursive strategies, such as framing, word choice, and specific syntactic structures, to shape positive or negative representations of political figures and parties. These results indicate that news texts are not neutral but function as instruments for reproducing power and ideology that influence public perception. This research is expected to contribute to the development of critical media literacy among readers and enrich the field of critical linguistics, particularly in the context of education and political communication.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal how gender equality is represented in online media through the Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) approach based on Fairclough’s model. The main focus of this research is to analyze how media discourse construction can either reinforce or deconstruct gender stereotypes toward women. The research data consist of online news texts taken from major Indonesian news portals between 2023 and 2024, specifically news related to women in political, economic, and social contexts. This study employs a descriptive qualitative method using three dimensions of analysis: textual, discursive practice, and social practice. The findings reveal that the media tend to portray women ambivalently on one hand, as empowered agents in public spheres, yet on the other, still frequently depicted as victims or passive objects, particularly in news related to violence. These findings indicate that media representation is not entirely neutral on gender issues. Therefore, critical awareness in media language use is essential to promote gender equality more fairly and proportionally.

Abstract

This study analyzes the translation of yellow books at the Shirotul Fuqoha' Gondanglegi Islamic Boarding School, Malang, with a focus on syntactic challenges. A qualitative approach is used through observation and text analysis to understand and analyze the phenomenon of yellow book translation at the Shirotul Fuqoha' Gondanglegi Islamic Boarding School, Malang. The data obtained will be analyzed using qualitative descriptive analysis techniques with a focus on syntax. The researcher pays attention to elements such as subjects, predicates, objects, and the use of conjunctions in both languages. The results of the study indicate that the main challenge lies in the differences in sentence structure, the use of conjunctions, and word order between Arabic and Indonesian. This study emphasizes the importance of understanding the syntax of both languages in translation so that the translation results remain accurate and contextual.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis makna linguistik dalam lirik lagu "Nina" karya Adnan Feast, khususnya yang berkaitan dengan tema kasih sayang dan perjuangan orang tua. Menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode analisis deskriptif, penelitian ini menerapkan kerangka teori Geoffrey Leech, termasuk makna konseptual, asosiatif, afektif, dan stilistik. Makna asosiatif (konotatif) menjadi kunci utama dalam menyampaikan kedalaman emosi, di mana frasa sederhana seperti "kujual dunia" dan "mengembara jauh" mengisyaratkan pengorbanan tak terbatas. Makna afektif secara konsisten memancarkan cinta tulus, sedangkan makna konseptual membentuk fondasi naratif. Selain itu, fitur stilistik seperti pengulangan dan kontras secara efektif memperkuat dampak emosional. Dengan demikian, lirik lagu "Nina" adalah manifestasi linguistik yang kaya akan pesan universal tentang cinta orang tua yang tak lekang oleh waktu dan perjuangan.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis bentuk -bentuk cyberbullying verbal (cyberbullying) yang dialami oleh selebriti Instagram (@tasyiiAhasyia) di kolom komentar yang terkait dengan masalah usaha mikro, kecil dan menengah (UMKM), dan mengidentifikasi dampak yang disebabkan oleh praktiknya.   Menggunakan metode studi kasus dengan pendekatan kualitatif dan analisis analisis wacana kritis dari Fairclough, penelitian ini meneliti komentar dan tanggapan negatif dari @Tasyiathasyia.   Data primer diperoleh melalui pengamatan dan mengunduh komentar dari akun Instagram @Tasyiathasyia, sedangkan data sekunder dikumpulkan melalui studi literatur.   Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa bentuk cyberbullying yang diterima termasuk penghinaan, pencemaran nama baik, dan mempermalukan tubuh.   Respons @tasyiiathasyia bervariasi, mulai dari pertahanan diri dan klarifikasi, menunjukkan adanya dampak emosional seperti kejutan, kekecewaan, tidak adil, dan frustrasi.   Studi ini memberikan wawasan tentang dinamika cyberbullying dari tokoh -tokoh publik di media sosial dan implikasi psikologis yang dialami oleh para korban.   Temuan ini diharapkan berkontribusi pada pemahaman yang lebih dalam tentang masalah cyberbullying dalam konteks interaksi online dan memberikan manfaat kepada pengguna media sosial, tokoh publik, peneliti lebih lanjut, dan masyarakat yang lebih luas dalam meningkatkan kesadaran akan etika berkomunikasi di ranah digital.
