Abstract

English learning in Islamic higher education requires approaches that improve language competence while strengthening Islamic communication values. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of an Islamic values-integrated digital English learning module in enhancing the Islamic Language Environment and improving English achievement among university dormitory students. A true experimental pretest–posttest control group design was employed involving 160 students residing at the University Residence of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta, Indonesia, who were randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. The intervention was conducted for one month through two structured programs, namely Vocabulary Qur’anic Communication Class (VQCC) and Friday Conversation, using a mobile-accessible digital module integrating Islamic values such as adab, discipline, responsibility, and ukhuwah into English learning activities. Data were collected through the Islamic Language Environment Questionnaire, an English Achievement Test, and observation sheets, then analyzed using non-parametric statistical techniques. The findings showed significant improvements in both the Islamic Language Environment and English achievement among students in the experimental group compared with those in the control group. Observation results also indicated higher participation, responsiveness, and communication engagement among students receiving the intervention. The study concludes that integrating Islamic values into digitally supported English learning effectively promotes language achievement and positive communication behavior in Islamic higher education residential environments.

Abstract

Artificial intelligence has increasingly influenced learning practices in higher education, particularly through the use of generative AI platforms such as ChatGPT. The integration of AI technology into academic activities creates opportunities as well as ethical challenges, especially in Islamic higher education where academic integrity and religious values are important. This study aims to analyze the use of ChatGPT, its benefits and challenges, and the role of Islamic academic ethics among Islamic religious education students. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach involving ten students selected purposively based on their experience using ChatGPT in academic activities. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis. The results show that ChatGPT is commonly used to search for information, understand lecture materials, complete assignments, assist academic writing, and support brainstorming activities. The use of ChatGPT helps students improve learning efficiency, gain easier access to information, and support independent learning. However, several challenges were also identified, including the risk of plagiarism, reduced use of primary academic sources, dependence on AI technology, and misinformation in Islamic-related materials. The findings also indicate that the use of ChatGPT is influenced by Islamic academic ethical principles such as information verification, honesty, intellectual responsibility, and consideration of benefits and risks in technology use. This study concludes that the acceptance of ChatGPT in Islamic higher education is influenced not only by technological usefulness and convenience but also by ethical and religious values that shape students’ academic behavior

Abstract

Leadership is one of the important competencies that students must possess as prospective leaders of the nation and the people. However, the development of the times and increasingly complex social challenges require students to have good communication skills, decision-making, and responsibility. In this context, the Campus Da'wah Institute (LDK) has a strategic role as a forum for character development and student leadership through a cadre regeneration program. This study aims to analyze the process of forming the spirit of student leadership through the AMY cadre program at LDK UKI Jama'ah Al-Anhar, University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta. This study uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study show that activities in the MY program, such as Focus Group Discussion (FGD), presentations, and training, are able to shape the character of student leadership through direct experience in discussing, cooperating, expressing opinions, and solving problems. This program also contributes to improving a sense of responsibility, communication skills, and decision-making. Thus, the AMY cadre program has proven to be effective in shaping the spirit of student leadership in the campus environment. Abstrak Kepemimpinan merupakan salah satu kompetensi penting yang harus dimiliki mahasiswa sebagai calon pemimpin bangsa dan umat. Namun, perkembangan zaman serta tantangan sosial yang semakin kompleks menuntut mahasiswa untuk memiliki kemampuan komunikasi, pengambilan keputusan, dan tanggung jawab yang baik. Dalam konteks ini, Lembaga Dakwah Kampus (LDK) memiliki peran strategis sebagai wadah pembinaan karakter dan kepemimpinan mahasiswa melalui program kaderisasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis proses pembentukan jiwa kepemimpinan mahasiswa melalui program perkaderan AMY di LDK UKI Jama’ah Al-Anhar Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif melalui observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kegiatan dalam program AMY, seperti Focus Group Discussion (FGD), presentasi, dan pelatihan, mampu membentuk karakter kepemimpinan mahasiswa melalui pengalaman langsung dalam berdiskusi, bekerja sama, menyampaikan pendapat, dan memecahkan masalah. Program ini juga berkontribusi dalam meningkatkan rasa tanggung jawab, kemampuan komunikasi, serta pengambilan keputusan. Dengan demikian, program perkaderan AMY terbukti efektif dalam membentuk jiwa kepemimpinan mahasiswa di lingkungan kampus.
