Abstract

The development of this student worksheet was driven by the need for guided discovery-based worksheets in protozoa practicum activities to enhance students’ concept mastery and critical thinking skills. This study aimed to determine the feasibility, practicality, and effectiveness of the developed worksheet. The research employed the ADDIE model and involved data collection through interviews and questionnaires, followed by both quantitative and qualitative descriptive analysis. The subjects of the study were students and teachers of Sekolah Menengah Pertama Negeri 16 Medan. The results showed that the feasibility test of student work sheet material obtained 87% and media 95% after product revision. For the practicality test, the teacher's response was 97% and students 94%. The effectiveness test shows that N-Gain on the concept mastery variable is 0.7563 (75.63%) and on critical thinking skills is 0.7705 (77.05%) and both are in the high and effective categories. This value shows that student work sheet not only helps understanding the material but also improves concept mastery and critical thinking skills. It can be concluded that the student work sheet developed is very feasible, practical and effective to use in learning.

Abstract

Infectious diseases caused by pathogenic bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli remain a health problem, especially due to increasing antibiotic resistance. Therefore, antibacterial alternatives from natural materials are needed, one of which is the chlorophyll pigment from Mimosa pudica Linn. This study aims to test the antibacterial activity of chlorophyll from young and old leaves of M. pudica Linn and compare the inhibitory power of both against test bacteria. This study is an experimental study that includes the preparation of simple drugs, ethanol extraction, liquid-liquid fractionation, purification using thin layer chromatography (TLC) and column chromatography, and antibacterial testing by disc diffusion method using standard bacterial inoculum McFarland 0.5. The purification results showed an Rf value of 0.87 with one spot indicating pure chlorophyll fraction. The antibacterial activity of chlorophyll is relatively weak, but the chlorophyll fraction of old leaves showed greater inhibitory power than young leaves. The highest inhibition zone against S. aureus was obtained from old leaf chlorophyll of 4.00 ± 1.01 mm, while against E. coli it was 2.54 ± 0.52 mm.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the validity, teacher responses, student responses, practicality, effectiveness, and the improvement of critical thinking skills through the development of a SETS-based. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the 4D model. The results show that: (1) The validity of the SETS-based e-module is categorized as very feasible, with an average score of 85% for material validation, 95% for media validation, and 89% for language validation, indicating that the e-module is suitable for instructional use. (2) Teacher responses indicate that the SETS-based e-module helps students develop more comprehensive and contextual thinking, the average score obtained for the model design aspect was 85%, the concept mastery aspect was 90% and the learning motivation aspect was 88%. (3) Student responses demonstrate that the e-module meets the criteria of practicality, comfort, and usefulness, and successfully enhances learning interest and motivation. The results obtained for the module design aspect were 95%, the concept mastery aspect was 89% and the learning motivation aspect was 90%. (4) The practicality and effectiveness tests reveal an average score of 91%, placing the e-module in the highly practical and highly effective categories for learning. (5) The improvement of students’ critical thinking skills is evidenced by the t-test 0.05, which indicates a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores. The average N-Gain score of 0.758, categorized as high, shows that the SETS-based e-module increased students’ critical thinking ability by 76%. Overall, the developed SETS-based e-module is valid, practical, effective, and capable of significantly improving students’ critical thinking skills.

Abstract

Penggunaan pupuk kimia secara berlebihan dapat merusak kualitas tanah dan meningkatkan biaya produksi. Oleh karena itu, pemanfaatan limbah organik rumah tangga seperti nasi basi dan kulit pisang sebagai bahan baku pupuk organik cair (POC) menjadi alternatif yang ramah lingkungan dan ekonomis. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas serta konsentrasi optimal POC dari nasi basi dan kulit pisang terhadap pertumbuhan sawi manis (Brassica juncea). Metode yang digunakan adalah eksperimen dengan tiga perlakuan konsentrasi POC (25%, 50%, dan 75%) serta satu kontrol, masing-masing dengan tiga kali ulangan. Parameter yang diamati meliputi tinggi tanaman, jumlah daun, lebar daun, dan berat basah. Data dianalisis secara statistik sederhana dengan menghitung nilai rata-rata setiap perlakuan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa konsentrasi 25% memberikan hasil terbaik pada semua parameter pertumbuhan, yaitu tinggi tanaman 6 cm, jumlah daun 4 helai, lebar daun 0,9 cm, dan berat basah 2,8 gram. Dari hasil penelitian yang telah dilakukan diperoleh kesimpulan bahwa POC dari nasi basi dan kulit pisang efektif meningkatkan pertumbuhan tanaman sawi manis terutama pada konsentrasi 25%. Namun, tidak terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antar perlakuan berdasarkan uji F.
