Abstract

This study aims to analyze the application of cognitivism theory through the use of video media in Physical Education, Sports, and Health (PJOK) learning for eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Eremerasa Satap. The background of the study is based on classroom observations showing that students found it difficult to understand learning material when the teacher relied mainly on lectures and immediately continued to practical activities. Students became less focused and tended to appear bored during verbal explanations. However, when video media was used before practice, students showed stronger attention, greater enthusiasm, and better understanding of the movements and learning steps. This research used a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through observation of teacher activities, student responses, and learning environment interactions during PJOK lessons. The findings indicate that video media helps students receive information through visual and auditory channels, observe movement examples clearly, organize concepts, remember procedures, and apply learning outcomes more confidently in practice. From the perspective of cognitivism, learning occurs through mental processes such as attention, perception, memory, and information processing. Video media supports these processes because it provides concrete examples that reduce student confusion and make abstract explanations easier to understand. The use of video also encourages social interaction through discussion, imitation, and cooperation among students. Therefore, video-based PJOK learning can be considered an effective strategy to improve student understanding, participation, and classroom engagement. The results may guide teachers in choosing simple technology that suits students' needs, lesson objectives, and school learning conditions during classroom practice.
