Abstract

A critical study of Progressive Christian soteriology according to the Letter to the Romans as a theological framework has a different meaning. The Letter to the Romans emphasizes God's grace in salvation through faith in Christ, centered on His redemptive work on the cross, while Progressive Christianity is socially liberating. Through this analysis, it aims to provide a correct understanding according to Christian faith. This study uses a qualitative method through exposition of the main texts in the Letter to the Romans. The results of the study indicate that Progressive Christian soteriology makes an important contribution in raising issues of social justice and active involvement in the world, but there is a tendency to reduce the emphasis on sin, redemption, and personal faith, which are the core of Paul's teachings in Romans. The conclusion of this study is that although Progressive Christianity offers a relevant perspective in answering the needs of the times, the foundation of Paul's soteriology in the Letter to the Romans remains irreplaceable.
