Abstract

The training on the use of the Mendeley application for compiling scientific bibliographies was held on May 25, 2024, at FTIK UIN Gusdur Pekalongan, attended by 76 participants from among final-year students and researchers. This training aims to enhance participants' knowledge and skills in managing references, recording citations, and efficiently compiling bibliographies according to academic formats. Through practical sessions, live demonstrations, and interactive discussions, participants gain a deep understanding of Mendeley's features, such as reference import, library management, and citation creation. The training results show a significant improvement in participants' operational skills with the Mendeley application. They became more confident in compiling accurate bibliographies, thereby improving the quality of scientific work and time efficiency. The long-term impacts include the enhancement of digital literacy, the strengthening of academic integrity, and the advancement of research quality in the educational environment. Abstract

This research aims to examine and compare in depth the thinking of John Dewey and Al-Ghazali in the context of character education, focusing on the empirical experiential approach according to Dewey and the spiritual-moral approach according to Al-Ghazali. John Dewey, as a leading figure of Western progressive education, developed the concept of experiential learning that placed direct experience and social interaction as the foundation of the formation of students' morals and personalities. Meanwhile, Al-Ghazali emphasized that character education must lead to the purification of the soul (tazkiyat al-nafs) through the application of the values of the Qur'an and Sunnah, as well as the habit of pious deeds.  Through a qualitative method with a literature study approach and descriptive-comparative analysis, this study identifies the principles of character education of the two characters, as well as explains the fundamental similarities and differences in their views. The results show that although they differ in philosophical grounds—Dewey is secular-humanist while Al-Ghazali is religious-transcendental—both agree that character education should be holistic, involving the active processes of the individual, the environment, and life experiences.  The novelty of this research lies in the systematic integration between two educational paradigms that have been considered opposite. By bringing together Dewey's principle of learning by doing and the concept of tahdzib al-nafs Al-Ghazali, this study offers a new theoretical framework for a balanced model of character education between rational, social, and spiritual aspects. This contribution is important in responding to the challenges of modern education that demand not only intellectual intelligence, but also emotional and moral intelligence.

Abstract

Vocational high schools (SMK) play a strategic role in producing graduates who are ready for work. However, students' career readiness is not only determined by technical skills, but also by their ability to plan for the future psychologically and socially. Guidance and Counseling (BK) teachers have an important responsibility in assisting students to recognize their potential, set goals, and make appropriate career decisions. The research question in this study is how BK teachers play a role in preparing students' careers, what obstacles they face, and what strategies they use in providing career guidance services. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through interviews, observations, and documentation of BK teachers at SMK Ma'arif NU Kajen. The purpose of this study is to describe the role of BK teachers, identify the obstacles that arise, and explore the strategies applied in the implementation of career services. The results of the study indicate that the role of guidance counselors includes the functions of facilitator, consultant, and character developer, although it is not yet optimal due to limitations in time, resources, and school policy support. The strategies used include individual approaches, collaboration with the Career Guidance Center (BKK), and strengthening communication with students. Career services require structural support to be more effective and sustainable.
