Abstract

This study aims to explore the effectiveness of Restructuring Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) in improving emotional regulation in adolescents experiencing toxic relationships. The subject of the study was a 20-year-old male who faced emotional conflict due to an unhealthy romantic relationship and complex family problems, such as parental divorce and social stigma. This study uses a qualitative method. The research design used is a single-subject design (N = 1) with a pre-test, post-test, with follow-up (PPF) design to determine the effect of the intervention given on the emergence of angry emotions and the ability to regulate emotions. The population in this study were late adolescents in Cirebon Regency who had low Emotional Regulation. The sampling technique used in this study was purposive sampling. The research sample taken was a late adolescent who experienced a toxic relationship and had low emotional regulation, which was measured using the emotional regulation scale. The intervention used the REBT approach based on the ABCDE model (Activating Event, Beliefs, Consequences, Disputation, Effect). The results showed a significant increase in the subject's emotional regulation ability, including reduced maladaptive behaviors such as alcohol consumption and emotional outbursts. The subject also showed increased social interaction and healthier coping mechanisms, allowing for better interpersonal relationships and higher emotional stability. This study emphasizes the importance of emotional regulation training for adolescents in dealing with interpersonal conflicts, and recommends REBT as an effective therapeutic approach for similar cases in the future. Abstract

Adolescence is a phase of transition from childhood to adulthood. At this time, changes usually occur in the form of body, cognitive, and psychology. Today’s teenagers are the generation that understands technology the most because they are raised with technology that is very easily accessible. This can have a bad impact if not addressed properly and correctly. One example is addiction to playing Online Games. Excessive playing of Online Games can cause problems such as loss of ability in time management, withdrawing from social activities, loss of academic value and other important life roles. To deal with the problem of Online Game addiction in adolescents, a counseling program needs to be provided. Counseling services provided can be carried out with a Behavioral Counseling approach. This study aims to identify how behavioral counseling services with a self-management approach can be effective in reducing Online Game addiction in adolescents. With a literature review approach using documentation and content analysis techniques, this study found that Self-management Techniques, both intervened through individual and group counseling, have proven to be effective in reducing Online Game addiction behavior in adolescents from various levels of education (junior and senior high school).

Abstract

The massive use of social media by Generation Z has a significant impact on their mental health, particularly in triggering anxiety disorders. Generation Z, born and raised in the digital era, has a high level of attachment to social media, which is often used compulsively as a means of escape, a pursuit of social validation, and due to the addictive design of these platforms. This dependency can lead to various forms of anxiety disorders, such as social anxiety, generalized anxiety disorder, and panic attacks. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) in addressing anxiety disorders caused by social media addiction among Generation Z through a literature review approach. The findings indicate that MBCT, which combines mindfulness and cognitive therapy, is effective in reducing anxiety symptoms, improving emotional regulation, and enhancing self-awareness among adolescents. The MBCT intervention is conducted over eight sessions, incorporating techniques such as breath meditation, thought observation, identification of negative thinking patterns, and strengthening awareness of emotional experiences. Literature findings suggest that MBCT is not only effective in clinical settings but can also be flexibly applied in educational environments and digital communities, making it a potential preventive and curative strategy for tackling the mental health crisis in the digital era. The success of this intervention is supported by active participant engagement as well as contextual support from trained facilitators and social environments aligned with Generation Z’s characteristics.
