Abstract

ABSTRAKMetode pembelajaran idealnya disesuaikan dengan kebutuhan siswa masa kini sebagai generasi Z yang cenderung menyukai informasi ringkas, cepat, dan juga mudah diakses. Salah satu pendekatan yang relevan untuk memenuhi hal ini adalah microlearning, yakni penyajian materi pembelajaran dilakukan dalam bentuk yang singkat, spesifik, terfokus, dan berdurasi pendek. Di era digital ini, microlearning memberikan solusi yang inovatif untuk menjawab tantangan pembelajaran modern, khususnya melalui media sosial seperti instagram dan tiktok yang sudah akrab dengan kehidupan siswa sehari-hari. Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini yaitu untuk meningkatkan minat dan pemahaman siswa terhadap pembelajaran bahasa Inggris melalui pemanfaatan video pendek berbasis microlearning di platform media sosial instagram dan tiktok. Kegiatan ini melibatkan 34 siswa kelas XII.3 jurusan manajemen perkantoran di SMKS Bina Satria Medan sebagai mitra sasaran. Metode palaksanaan kegiatan ini yaitu pemberian materi, diskusi, dan praktik langsung menggunakan video pendek (microlearning) di media sosial instagram dan tiktok. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa pendekatan ini mampu meningkatkan partisipasi dan menarik minat siswa dalam belajar bahasa Inggris karena siswa merasa microlearning menawarkan pembelajaran bahasa Inggris yang lebih kontekstual, relevan, praktis, dan mudah. Kata Kunci : Pengajaran Bahasa Inggris, Sosial Media Instagram dan Tiktok, Microlearning ABSTRACTThe chosen learning methods should ideally align with the needs of today’s students, particularly Generation Z, who tend to prefer information that is concise, fast-paced, and easily accessible. One relevant approach to address these preferences is microlearning, which involves delivering learning content in short, specific, focused formats with brief durations. In the digital era, microlearning offers an innovative solution to the challenges of modern education, especially through the use of social media platforms such as Instagram and TikTok, which are already deeply integrated into students’ daily lives. This community service activity aimed to enhance students’ interest and understanding in learning English by utilizing short videos based on the microlearning approach through Instagram and TikTok. This activitiy involved 34 students from class XII.3 of the Office Management Program at SMKS Bina Satria Medan as the target participants. The methods employed included material delivery, interactive discussions, and hands-on practice using short-form video content (microlearning) on Instagram and TikTok. The results of the activity indicate that this approach successfully increased student engagement and motivation in learning English. Students perceived microlearning as a more contextual, relevant, practical, and accessible way to learn the language.  Keywords: English Language Teaching, Instagram and TikTok Social Media, Microlearning

Abstract

This research examines how the Webtoon application influences students’ vocabulary mastery. A quasi-experimental design was applied to two tenth-grade classes (MP 1 and RPL 2) at SMK Swasta PAB 2 Helvetia, involving a total of 40 students who were separated into an experimental class and a control class. The experimental group learned vocabulary through the Webtoon application, while the control group received instruction using conventional printed materials. Vocabulary assessments were administered as pre-test and post-test to determine students’ progress. The results demonstrated that the experimental group achieved a noticeably higher improvement, with an average post-test score of 76.60 compared to 59.20 in the control group. The paired sample test obtained a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating that the use of Webtoon had a meaningful and significant impact on students’ vocabulary development. Therefore, Webtoon, as a digital comic-based learning medium, is considered effective in providing contextual vocabulary exposure and enhancing student engagement, making it a suitable digital tool to support English vocabulary learning.
