Abstract

This research is motivated by customer satisfaction which is a customer action to save. The purpose of this study was to determine the ef ect of location, quality of savings products, service quality on customer satisfaction. In this study using primary data collected by explanatory research methods and sample collection techniques in the form of accidental sampling of BMT customers Adzkiyah Khidmatul Ummah using a questionnaire with a likert skla in BMT Adzkiyah Khidmatul Ummah in Metro City. Testing the instrument requirements used include validity, reliability testing. Requirements analysis using normality test, linearity test, homogeneity test. And analysis tools using multiple linear regression with partial test (t test), simultaneous test (f test), coef icient of determination test (R2). As testing requirements analysis and hypothesis testing. Based on the results of research using multiple linear regression analysis obtained location influences customer satisfaction, the quality of savings products does not af ect customer satisfaction, and service quality influences customer satisfaction.

Abstract

This study highlights the integration of metacognitive strategies in reading comprehension through a novel Three-phases instructional model, focusing on metacognitive strategies (pre-reading, while-reading, post-reading). This innovative model is distinct in its holistic approach to enhancing students' reading comprehension by activating their prior knowledge, engaging them actively in the reading process, and fostering reflective comprehension towards a successful strategic reading journey. Targeting narrative texts, the research was conducted with 70 junior school students from Tanjung Morawa, specifically selected for their lower proficiency in reading comprehension, highlighting the model's focus on addressing the needs of struggling readers. Through a mixed-method approach, employing both tests and questionnaires for data collection, the study demonstrated that the instructional model significantly boosts students' reading comprehension. The mean score improvement from 62.85 (pre-test) to 83.71 (post-test) underscores the model's effectiveness and its potential to significantly enhance students' reading comprehension skills. A survey of 35 students further validated the model's role in elevating their awareness and motivation for reading, with making a prediction which got 28 (80.0%) is the most commonly used, followed by restating ideas with 23 (65.7%) and thinking aloud with 21 (60.0%). These results not only bridge the existing gap in reading instruction but also carry significant implications for educational practices and literacy development. It serves as a testament to the potential of innovative instructional models in enhancing reading comprehension.

Abstract

The breakthrough on developing the synergy of international relations among countries is by fostering student exchange as the so-called worthwile programs that link the bilateral relationship and cultural identities. These student exchange programs accentuate the mutual liaison among the countries. It, indeed, exerts influence on students both positively and unforgettably. This research was designed in qualitative method and researcher utilized inquiry strategy of phenomenological study. Three main informants were participated in this research because they experienced the student exchange in advance. Researcher gathered the data through in-depth interview. Specifically, there were four major themes found in the research, they were 1) The lifetime experiences, 2) The challenges and barriers, 3) The problem solving, and 4) The impacts and changes. These findings highlighted the primary goal of the student exchange program itself and also fostered interconnection among the countries in forging impacts for the students as well as the country they belong to. Abstract

Abstract A very significant policy in education has been introduced by the Indonesia Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, Nadiem Makarim, that is called as Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM). These programs offer many opportunities for those students to improve their self-development that can enhance their future career. Researchers use phenomenological study as a strategy of inquiry in this qualitative research method design. Four EFL students were being key informants in this research. They were students of English department from one state private university in Medan. Researchers used in-depth interview to gather the data information. Primarily, this research brings to a deep discussion on five major themes, they are 1) Challenges and practices, 2) Values of the program, 3) Impacts for the students, 4) Roles and responsibilities, and 5) Perspective changes. This research highlights the thoughts on how to increase the evidentiary base for Kampus Merdeka’s future operationalization especially for the university’s policy on giving those students’ score on their course matters. Abstrak Kebijakan yang sangat signifikan dalam pendidikan telah diperkenalkan oleh Kementerian Pendidikan, Kebudayaan, Riset dan Teknologi Indonesia, Nadiem Makarim, yang disebut sebagai Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM). Program-program ini menawarkan banyak kesempatan bagi para siswa untuk meningkatkan pengembangan diri mereka yang dapat meningkatkan karir masa depan mereka. Peneliti menggunakan studi fenomenologi sebagai strategi penyelidikan dalam perancangan metode penelitian kualitatif ini. Empat siswa EFL menjadi informan kunci dalam penelitian ini. Mereka adalah mahasiswa jurusan Bahasa Inggris dari salah satu universitas swasta negeri di Medan. Peneliti menggunakan wawancara mendalam untuk mengumpulkan informasi data. Terutama, penelitian ini membawa diskusi mendalam tentang lima tema utama, yaitu 1) Tantangan dan praktik, 2) Nilai program, 3) Dampak bagi siswa, 4) Peran dan tanggung jawab, dan 5) Perubahan perspektif. Penelitian ini menyoroti pemikiran tentang bagaimana meningkatkan basis pembuktian untuk operasionalisasi Kampus Merdeka di masa depan, terutama untuk kebijakan universitas tentang memberikan nilai siswa tersebut pada materi kuliah mereka. Kata kunci: Program MBKM, mahasiswa bahasa Inggris, Prospek Karir Masa Depan.

Abstract

ABSTRAKMetode pembelajaran idealnya disesuaikan dengan kebutuhan siswa masa kini sebagai generasi Z yang cenderung menyukai informasi ringkas, cepat, dan juga mudah diakses. Salah satu pendekatan yang relevan untuk memenuhi hal ini adalah microlearning, yakni penyajian materi pembelajaran dilakukan dalam bentuk yang singkat, spesifik, terfokus, dan berdurasi pendek. Di era digital ini, microlearning memberikan solusi yang inovatif untuk menjawab tantangan pembelajaran modern, khususnya melalui media sosial seperti instagram dan tiktok yang sudah akrab dengan kehidupan siswa sehari-hari. Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini yaitu untuk meningkatkan minat dan pemahaman siswa terhadap pembelajaran bahasa Inggris melalui pemanfaatan video pendek berbasis microlearning di platform media sosial instagram dan tiktok. Kegiatan ini melibatkan 34 siswa kelas XII.3 jurusan manajemen perkantoran di SMKS Bina Satria Medan sebagai mitra sasaran. Metode palaksanaan kegiatan ini yaitu pemberian materi, diskusi, dan praktik langsung menggunakan video pendek (microlearning) di media sosial instagram dan tiktok. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa pendekatan ini mampu meningkatkan partisipasi dan menarik minat siswa dalam belajar bahasa Inggris karena siswa merasa microlearning menawarkan pembelajaran bahasa Inggris yang lebih kontekstual, relevan, praktis, dan mudah. Kata Kunci : Pengajaran Bahasa Inggris, Sosial Media Instagram dan Tiktok, Microlearning ABSTRACTThe chosen learning methods should ideally align with the needs of today’s students, particularly Generation Z, who tend to prefer information that is concise, fast-paced, and easily accessible. One relevant approach to address these preferences is microlearning, which involves delivering learning content in short, specific, focused formats with brief durations. In the digital era, microlearning offers an innovative solution to the challenges of modern education, especially through the use of social media platforms such as Instagram and TikTok, which are already deeply integrated into students’ daily lives. This community service activity aimed to enhance students’ interest and understanding in learning English by utilizing short videos based on the microlearning approach through Instagram and TikTok. This activitiy involved 34 students from class XII.3 of the Office Management Program at SMKS Bina Satria Medan as the target participants. The methods employed included material delivery, interactive discussions, and hands-on practice using short-form video content (microlearning) on Instagram and TikTok. The results of the activity indicate that this approach successfully increased student engagement and motivation in learning English. Abstract

Vocabulary is the foundation of language. Students must master  vocabulary if they want to become skilled in the language. By mastering vocabulary, students can also master other skills such as speaking skills, writing skills, listening skills, and reading skills. To make it happen, teachers must have the right teaching media. Integrating technology into the teaching and learning of English is certainly one of the effective ways that all English teachers should apply in their class. By understanding and following technological advances, not only teachers, students will also receive a very good impact from this, namely students are able to master and enrich their English vocabulary. Utilization of this technology can be done by applying teaching media such as WoW (Word of Wonders; Crossword) applications or crossword puzzles. This application, of course, is very practical for students to download and get anytime and anywhere. The use of this application is also very easy for students to understand. This of course has a positive impact on improving the quality and ability of students, especially in their English skills. Abstract

One of key features in Kurikulum Merdeka is the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) approach, which integrates technology into the classroom and focuses to prepare students’ readiness for encountering real-life challenges. In project-based learning, students design, execute, and assess projects that apply to real-world implementation in outside of the classroom. The participants of this research are tenth grade students of science class at SMAS Pelita Bulu Cina. The purpose of this research is to find out the impact of using project-based learning on students’ English speaking skills. Researchers used quantitative research focusing on pre-experimental research method design. To collect the data, researchers used test as the research instrument. There were pre-test and post test. Researchers analyzed the data by using inferential statistics and descriptive statistics. T-test formula was also used to get the speaking pretest and post test. The finding showed that the mean of pretest score was 71.40 and the post test was 84.25. The hypothesis test result indicated that t-table value for the post test score was 2.012, and significance value was less than ρ value (2- tailed) < 0.05, that was (0.001 < 0.05). It can be concluded that Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. In short, project-based learning gave an impact on students’ speaking skill.

Abstract

This research explores Johnny Cash's song lyrics using George Lakoff's metaphor theory. It aims to understand the metaphorical expressions in Cash's song lyrics by analyzing their recurring themes and their connection to the socio-cultural context of the artist's era. The research includes identify metaphorical expressions and examine thematic motifs, the cultural and historical context that influenced the author's use of metaphors. The research also examined the influence of metaphorical language on the narrative depth and affective impact of Cash's compositions. Grounded theory in established metaphor analysis and the function of metaphor in artistic expression, the research expands upon the cognitive linguistic perspective by situating the analysis within Lakoff's theory. It gains insight into how metaphors communicate complex emotions, abstract ideas, and societal contemplations in Cash's lyrics. The research uses a systematic methodology to select songs and employs techniques for identifying metaphors based on Lakoff's theoretical framework. Thematic analysis is used to identify recurring patterns within the metaphorical expressions, while cultural contextualization helps understand the factors that shaped Cash's imaginative use of metaphors. This research had significant contribution to musicology, literary studies, and cultural analysis. By analyzing the metaphorical depth of Cash's lyrics from Lakoff's theory, it provides an original perspective on the artist's thought process and enhances the understanding of the lasting importance and thematic complexity of his contributions in contemporary music.

Abstract

Teknologi yang terintegrasi kedalam pembelajaran keterampilan berbicara bahasa Inggris memberikan kemudahan yang sangat signifikan. Salah satunya yaitu aplikasi ELSA Speak. Ada banyak fitur menarik yang ditawarkan oleh aplikasi ELSA Speak seperti pelafalan, pengenalan aksen, dan juga evaluasi otomatis dimana fitur-fitur ini dirancang untuk membantu penggunanya dalam meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara. Ada 33 siswa kelas XI jurusan Teknik Kendaraan Ringan yang berpartisipasi dalam kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk mengkaji efektivitas dari penggunaan aplikasi ELSA Speak dalam belajar berbicara bahasa Inggris. Setelah belajar keterampilan berbicara menggunakan aplikasi ELSA Speak, kemampuan berbicara bahasa Inggris siswa perlahan mulai meningkat khususnya dalam hal pelafalan dan kepercayaan diri. Selain itu, mayoritas siswa merasa puas dengan pengalaman belajar menggunakan aplikasi ini dan menganggap aplikasi ELSA Speak sebagai media yang efektif dan menyenangkan. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa integrasi teknologi dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris dapat memberikan dampak positif terhadap keterampilan berbicara siswa
