Abstract

Heart failure is a leading global cause of mortality. Accurate diagnosis is crucial as the basis for appropriate nursing care. This study aims to identify nursing diagnoses observed in heart failure patients treated at the Emergency Department of Lamongan Muhammadiyah Hospital. A retrospective descriptive-analytic design was applied to 284 medical records of heart failure patients such as admitted between January and December 2023 from 986 patients totally, selected through cluster random sampling. The Study conducted in February 2024. Data were collected via recapitulation and analyzed using frequency distribution. Results indicate symptoms of heart failure including shortness of breath, increased respiratory rate, tachycardia, arrhythmias on ECG, nasal flaring, edema, hypertension, pain, anxiety, altered PCO2 levels, use of accessory muscles for breathing, reduced PO2, fatigue, hypotension, dyspnea, pale skin, CRT >3 seconds, cold extremities, and decreased consciousness. The most common nursing diagnoses included ineffective breathing patterns, acute pain, decreased cardiac output, activity intolerance, ineffective airway clearance, and hypervolemia. The nursing diagnoses obtained in this study have different priorities with the theory because some patients have various condition in the first day admitted in the hospital. Further research is needed with a realtime data and compared with complicated heart failure.

Abstract

Children with disabilities are a vulnerable group during disasters due to the limitations they experience. Disaster risk reduction can be achieved through education, which can be delivered using audio visual media and sign language. The aim of this study is to analyze the impact of audio visual and sign language education on the knowledge of children with disabilities regarding fire disaster preparedness. The research was conducted using a pre-experimental approach with a one-group pre-posttest design involving 25 students with disabilities (visual impairments, hearing impairments, and mild intellectual disabilities) from Junior and Senior High School for special needs in Banjarmendalan, Lamongan Regency, in May 2024. The intervention consisted of audiovisual and sign language education on fire disaster preparedness. The measurement tool used was a questionnaire assessing knowledge, and the data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test (α≤0.05). The results indicated that 56% of students with disabilities had a moderate level of knowledge before the educational intervention, and increased to 68% after the intervention. There was a significant effect of audiovisual and sign language education on the knowledge of students with disabilities regarding fire disaster preparedness (p=0.000). Audio visual and sign language education proved effective in enhancing the knowledge of students with disabilities. However, the effect of the education varied among respondents due to differences in the types of disabilities. Future research is recommended to select specific methods tailored to particular types of disabilities, such as using Braille books for individuals with visual impairments.

Abstract

Introduction: Glagah is one of the districts in Lamongan Regency with a high potential for natural disasters such as floods, tornadoes, droughts, and forest fires. To reduce the impact of disasters, disaster mitigation is required. On the other hand, students are a vulnerable group to natural disasters. Before disaster mitigation is carried out, it is necessary to initially identify students’ level of disaster knowledge and preparedness. The purpose of the study was to determine students’ knowledge and preparedness in facing natural disasters. Method. The study used descriptive quantitative research with a sample of 310 junior high school students in Glagah District who were obtained using a two-stage cluster random sampling technique on March 6-10, 2024. The data were collected using a questionnaire on knowledge and preparedness for floods, tornadoes, and fires, and then analyzed descriptively. Result. The results indicated that students’ knowledge in dealing with floods, tornadoes, and fires was in the "good" category (96.5%; 87.4%; 71.6%). Students were in the "prepared" category for floods and fires (62.6%; 49.7%), and in the "very prepared" category for tornadoes (48.7%). Conclusion. Students demonstrated the best knowledge in flood and fire disasters. Students were in the "very prepared" category in tornado disasters, and in the "prepared" category in floods and fires. It is recommended that future researchers can conduct interventions to improve student preparedness in all types of natural disasters and identify students’ knowledge and preparedness in dealing with earthquake disasters.
