Abstract

Wirokerten Tourism Village, located in Banguntapan District, Bantul, Yogyakarta, is a tourist destination that combines cultural richness, culinary diversity, and natural beauty with an authentic tourism concept. This study aims to analyze the role of the community in developing an independent, culture-based tourism village. The method used is Asset-Based Community Development with four stages: preparation stage, implementation stage, monitoring and evaluation, follow-up plan. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach through literature studies, interviews, and observations to understand community involvement in tourism village management. The results indicate that the community actively participates in various aspects, such as managing Pasar Blumbang Mataram, preserving local arts and culture, providing homestays, and promoting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Additionally, community participation is evident in institutional development, cultural preservation, and economic activities. However, some key challenges include a lack of coordination among stakeholders and limited promotion of local products. With support from various stakeholders, Wirokerten Tourism Village has significant potential to become an independent, competitive, and sustainable tourism destination. This study highlights that the success of tourism village management depends not only on its existing potential but also on community involvement and external support. Through institutional strengthening, digital promotion, and synergy between the community, academics, and government, Wirokerten Tourism Village can develop into a leading cultural and sustainable tourism destination

Abstract

Law No. 8 of 2016 concerning persons with disabilities pressures the rights of persons with disabilities on access to public facilities, including the tourism sector. Bantul Regency has great potential for natural and cultural tourism. However, Bantul Regency is able to face challenges in realizing inclusive tourism that is friendly to persons with disabilities. Many studies have highlighted inclusive tourism but most still focus on general aspects of inclusivity in general without exploring in depth accessibility for persons with disabilities, even though accessibility is the main foundation for creating inclusive and socially just tourist destinations. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the strategy of the Bantul Regency government in creating sustainable inclusive tourism. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method, with data collected through in-depth interviews, field observations, and document analysis. The results of this study indicate that Bantul Regency has not fully developed inclusive tourism, with accessibility facilities that are not evenly distributed across all tourist destinations, although there have been some initial efforts. Therefore, this study provides suggestions so that the Bantul Regency Government can create tourism facilities that are in accordance with accessibility standards, fair, inclusive, and sustainable, in accordance with Law No. 8 of 2016. This study has limitations that lie in the number of respondents which are still limited.
