Abstract

T This study focuses on podcasts as a medium for enhancing speaking competence in German as a Foreign Language (DaF) instruction. In contrast to existing research, this study emphasizes student-created podcasts and their didactic potential in higher education contexts. The key research questions explore how podcasts can be integrated into the classroom, how project-based learning through podcasts supports language acquisition, and how their use affects speaking proficiency. The study is conducted with German language students at UNJ and UNPAD at the B2 proficiency level. Initial survey results indicate that the use of podcasts increases students' motivation to learn German. Furthermore, findings suggest that creating their own podcasts not only improves students' linguistic abilities but also fosters 21st-century skills, including learning and innovation competencies as well as media, information, and technology literacy—skills that align with Indonesia’s educational goals.  The study's findings aim to provide German language instructors with further insights and practical ideas on how podcasts can be effectively implemented in DaF instruction to better meet the needs of today's learners.

Abstract

Self-defense mechanism is part of Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic theory. According to Freud, self-defense mechanism is an individual way of coping with anxiety-related outbursts. Anxiety can arise when there is a conflict of desire between the id and ego because the id gets a sex drive and aggression that forces the ego to do something it wants. The problem of individuals who overcome anxiety by self-defense can also occur in human "creation" in the form of characters in literary works, as in the novel. The novel to be studied in this research is a children's novel from Germany entitled Pünktchen und Anton by Erich Kästner. The main characters, Pünktchen and Anton, are still in elementary school. Pünktchen and Anton have different life problems from each other. This study aims to know in depth or to explore the type of self-defense mechanism used by the two main figures in the face of anxiety. This research is qualitative research with a content analysis method. The results show there are 31 data on self-defense mechanisms in this novel. Pünktchen uses the form of Repression 3 data, Reaction Formation 6 data, Displacement 1 data, Fixation 1 data, Disclaimer 1 data, and Rationalization 1 data. Anton uses the form of Repression 4 data, Reaction Formation 6 data, Displacement 3 data, Sublimation 2 data, and Rationalization 3 data. The second sub-focus on the type of personality of the main character, the results show Pünktchen used 4 data for id, 4 data for superego, and 1 data for ego. It means Pünktchen's personality is dominated by id and superego. Anton used 3 data for the id, 6 data for the ego, and 5 data for the superego. It means Anton has a healthy personality because he was dominated by his ego.

Abstract

Abstract. Modal particles are interesting to study because they have no meaning when standing alone, but when used in a sentence, they can have meaning depending on the context. Modal particles can help clarify a person's view on an issue, whether it is a sign of agreement or disagreement. Therefore, the focus of this study is the meaning of modal particles in the comic “Emil und die Detektive” by Isabel Kreitz. The theory used is that of modal particles according to Maria Thurmair. This research is a qualitative study using a literature review method with a descriptive approach. The results of this study show a total of 185 modal particles, consisting of 164 non-combined modal particles and 21 combined modal particles. This means that the use of non-combination Modalpartikel accounts for 89%, while the use of combination Modalpartikel is only around 11%. Among the 164 non-combination Modalpartikel, there are 17 types of Modalpartikel in the dialogues of this comic. The Modalpartikel not used are “halt” and “mir.” In the dialogue of the comic “Emil und die Detektive,” many modal particles were found to have dual functions or similar sounds but different meanings. In this comic, there are several types of combined modal particles that do not fall under the categories mentioned by Maria Thurmair, so these modal particles are not counted as combined modal particles. Keywords: Modal particles, Comic, Emil und die Detektive
