Abstract

The landscape of second language classrooms (SLCs) adapts to innovative language teaching strategies to empower language learners through various technology applications such as Padlet, which offers a dynamic and enhanced learners’ academic experience. This phenomenological qualitative research explored the utilization of Padlet in second language classroom teaching, along with the encountered problems of language learners in using Padlet, and its technological potential in second language teaching and learning. The data were analyzed thematically after a series of scheduled semi-structured face-to-face interviews with 210 learner-participants selected through a purposive sampling technique, while guided by a validated 15 self-developed interview guide questions. The findings highlight the Padlet as an efficient, multifunctional, and novel pedagogical tool fostering dynamic and inclusive language engagement and versatile language learning interactions, despite its restriction issues due to their limited technology exposure. With Padlet’s promising results, this study substantiates pedagogical evidence on Padlet integration in second language classroom teaching; hence, ensuring a more effective and efficient technology utilization, thereby handing more positive implications to ESL teachers and learners.

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of the critical-collaborative learning model (CCLM), which integrates socioscientific issues within a problem-based learning framework, on enhancing the critical thinking skills (CTS) of pre-service physics teachers. A quasi-experimental design with non-equivalent control groups was employed, with 26 students in the experimental group and 27 students in the control group. The experimental group, which engaged in project-based learning activities centered on real-world issues such as climate change and energy crises, demonstrated significant improvements in CTS, as measured by the Rasch model. The pretest mean logit for the experimental group was 125.25 (SD = 72.24), and after the intervention, the posttest mean logit was 77.69 (SD = 3.87), showing a significant improvement with a gain of -47.56. In contrast, the control group showed a smaller change, with a pretest mean logit of 66.92 (SD = 45.28) and a posttest mean logit of 50.23 (SD = 80.57), resulting in a smaller gain of -16.68. The findings suggest that incorporating collaborative and socioscientific elements into the learning process fosters deeper engagement and higher-order thinking. This study contributes to the body of research supporting constructivist-based and collaborative learning approaches, offering valuable insights into their application in science education. Further investigation into the long-term effects of such models across diverse educational contexts is recommended

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the phenomenon of Quarter Life Crisis (QLC) in emerging adults. The research was conducted using a qualitative approach through in-depth interviews with several informants and analysis of relevant literature. The findings indicate that Quarter Life Crisis is a condition commonly experienced by individuals during the transition from late adolescence to early adulthood. Common symptoms include anxiety about the future, confusion in making major life decisions (such as choosing between continuing education or getting married), social pressure, and frustration due to social comparison with peers. The main contributing factors to QLC include intolerance to uncertainty, suboptimal personal growth, and low family functioning. Using a holistic-systemic model, the QLC experiences of each informant in this study are understood as a process of communication with the surrounding environment and self-transformation, through four phases: locked-in, separation, exploration, and rebuilding.
