Abstract

This study aims to determine the improvement in student learning outcomes by applying innovative teaching materials based on Problem-Based Learning, and to analyse the relationship between student characteristics and chemistry learning outcomes using teaching materials based on Problem-Based Learning. The study was conducted on 72 Grade X vocational high school students using an experimental method with a control class and an experimental class. The results showed a significant improvement in learning outcomes in the experimental class (73%) compared to the control class (69%). There was a significant relationship between characteristics such as curiosity, independence, discipline, hard work, and honesty with improved chemistry learning outcomes on the topics of element symbols and chemical equations.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dimaksudkan untuk memahami: (1) Bagaimana level kesesuaian materi pembelajaran ilmu kimia SMK kelas X pada topik lambang unsur dan persamaan reaksi yang tersedia saat ini, apakah sudah memadai dan selaras dengan standar konten yang ditentukan oleh “Badan Standar Nasional Pendidikan (BSNP)”  (BSNP) (2) Apakah materi pembelajaran ilmu kimia yang telah dikembangkan untuk SMK kelas X pada topik lambang unsur dan persamaan reaksi sudah memadai dan selaras dengan standar konten dari BSNP. (3) Apakah prestasi belajar murid yang menggunakan materi pembelajaran ilmu kimia yang telah dikembangkan lebih baik dibandingkan dengan murid tanpa menggunakan materi tersebut. Tipe penelitian ini termasuk penelitian inovasi (research and development). Subjek penelitian melibatkan seluruh murid kelas X SMK, sedangkan contoh penelitian diambil dari SMK Negeri 2 Panyabungan sebanyak dua kelas yang terdiri dari 72 murid, dipilih dengan metode pemilihan berdasarkan tujuan (purposive sampling). Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) Materi pembelajaran dari penerbit A dan B terkait topik lambang unsur dan persamaan reaksi relatif sahih menurut standar LSPN. (2) Materi pembelajaran ilmu kimia pada topik lambang unsur dan persamaan reaksi yang dikembangkan untuk SMK kelas X telah memenuhi kriteria kesesuaian konten dengan nilai rata-rata 3,60, kesesuaian linguistik 3,73, kesesuaian penyampaian 3,70, dan visualisasi 3,79. (3) Terdapat perbedaan signifikan dalam prestasi belajar murid dengan penggunaan materi pembelajaran yang dikembangkan lebih baik dibandingkan tanpa materi tersebut. (Sig.1-tailed < a (0,008 < 0,05).
