Abstract

Lockdown fatigue due to the pandemic transpires when individuals are asked to make behavior changes over a long period of time. This experience is considered to be difficult than short-term changes. Similar to any other deviations in lifestyles, people can follow the new rules for a short period of time. Teachers and personnel in the academe were not exempted from this dilemma. Researches revealed that pandemic fatigue significantly affects the teacher’s psychological well-being. Results showed that in terms of the definite work, due to the online distance learning format, teachers experience struggle with technological concerns and issues during their online teaching which leads to the feeling that the work duty is increasingly difficult and the work pressure is ever-increasing. Teachers during the pandemic felt very exhausted of all the webinars, writing modules and checking outputs both online and offline. Fatigue connected with COVID-19 can have implications on teachers’ capacities to teach efficiently and deliver emotional support for students. In spite of the difficulty and disturbances, strategic and goal-oriented teaching must still continue. Future researchers may focus on respondents specifically those who currently have a full-time work as a teacher and simultaneously work as a full-time mother teaching their own children.

Abstract

The students’ preferred learning style is a very important part of the teaching and learning process. In selecting the most appropriate pedagogy to teach a lesson, the diversity of learners must be taken into serious consideration. The study examined the preferred learning styles of teacher educations students in Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Marikina, Philippines during the time of the Covid 19 pandemic. A survey was conducted among 282 college students taking education course. Descriptive research design was used to analyze the data gathered during the investigation. Results showed that both male (WM=3.06) and female (WM=3.11) teacher education students scored highest on the visual learning style meaning they learn best when shown instructional materials in the form of pictures and videos. However, it was also revealed that female students learn better in terms of visual style as compared to their male counterpart. Hence, it is recommended that college instructors and professors consider and take a look at the teacher education students’ preferred learning styles when crafting teaching strategies for their students even in remote learning in the time of pandemic.

Abstract

The study investigated the problems that adversely affect the mental health of Filipino teachers during the time of Covid-19 pandemic. The results of the study revealed various ways teachers cope with their problems on mental health. Family and other forms of social support, recreational, and spiritual activities have always been beneficial in these challenging times and a lot of studies has proved its effectiveness on dealing with mental health. However, aside from these coping strategies, teachers have proven themselves to be flexible enough to find ways for them to feel much better. The study also proves that teachers are resilient in dealing with their problems. They acknowledged their difficulties, yet they also manage and divert their focus into something more positive and productive. It is also noteworthy that teachers are less likely to experience pandemic fatigue since they always try to be obedient with the safety precautions mandated by the government considering that it is for their own sake. It is recommended that teachers who are about to return to face-to-face classes or onsite reporting be subjected to counseling before they go back to pre-pandemic work set-up so that the delivery of quality education will be ensured as we gradually accept the new normal in the field of education.

Abstract

The study aimed to determine the qualifications and competencies of guidance teachers in correlation with their performance for the school year 2018 – 2019. The status of the qualifications of the guidance teachers was determined in terms of educational attainment, level of seminars and trainings attended pertinent to guidance related work and length of service as a guidance teacher. The respondents of the study were 15 school heads, 37 guidance teachers and 1,001 teachers. The study utilized the descriptive evaluative method. Data were collected through the use of researcher – adapted questionnaire checklist. The results showed that there is no significant correlation between the qualifications of the guidance teachers and their competencies as perceived by the three groups of respondents. The results showed that there are no significant correlations between the qualifications of the guidance teachers and their performance. In consideration of the correlation that exists, the administrators and the teachers perceived that the guidance teachers’ qualifications are positively correlated with the performance. The results showed that there is a low correlation between the competencies of guidance teachers and their performance but considered to be not significant. In consideration of the administrators and teachers, the correlation is positive while for the guidance teachers themselves, the correlation is negative.

Abstract

Learning complicated topics in Physics is one of the most challenging tasks students experi-ence in the classroom. Physics teachers use supplementary materials and laboratory exercises to help students visualize and imagine what they are studying in order to better understand the topics. These learning aids, however, are sometimes not sufficient. Students would still struggle to learn due to lack of effective teaching materials. Without effective teaching materials, it is impossible to master Physics concepts. The study focused on developing and evaluating a learning resource package in Optics for Grade 10 Science. The results showed that the resource package will provide an effective and alternative method for students to be exposed to the scientific method and to explore and observe what the beauty of physics does in our lives. These are very helpful for teachers when teaching Physics concepts. Furthermore, because the learning resource package is already complete, the teacher may feel more prepared to teach optics classes. It is recommended that teacher-writers create lessons that are similar to those already used in science classrooms which may directly address the needs of students.

A total of fifty nursing students enrolled in Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Marikina for the academic year 2021-2022 were involved in the research. Among the participants, 52% (n=26) took a STEM program in Senior High School. Results revealed that the respondents are confident with their knowledge in basic science and agreed with the information associated with self-confidence. The students' confidence was influenced by the strand they took in senior high school, followed by the method of teaching used in the subject, and the experience in laboratory. Meanwhile, their monthly family income is the least important factor influencing their confidence. Abstract

Dancing is a popular form of physical exercise. Researches have shown that dancing can increase self-esteem and improve our mind and body to become more productive. The aim of this study is to explore the impact of "Galaw Pilipinas" calisthenics exercise on the motivation of students as they go back to face-to-face classes. The sample for this study is composed of 16 female and 15 male Senior High School students of a public national high school in Marikina City. Senior High School students' pretest results; mean score was 87.52, the standard deviation was 4.67 and the standard error mean was 0.84. While the Senior High School students' posttest results; mean score was 95.87, the standard deviation was 3.24 and the standard error mean was 1.96. A paired samples t-test was conducted to evaluate the impact of the Galaw ng Pilipinas dance routine on student motivation. The results showed a significant increase in the marks of the students’ pretest (M = 87.52, SD =4.67 to posttest (M = 95.87, SD = 3.24), t = 9.1399, n = 31, p= .0001 which is less than 0.05 (two-tailed). By conventional criteria, this difference is considered to be statistically significant. Hence, the dance routine greatly affects the increase in motivation of the students.

Abstract

he study aimed to determine the impact of having teaching loads assigned to teachers which are not aligned with their preservice training. The research utilized a descriptive research design and involved 12 senior high school teachers who are teaching in a public national high school in Marikina City, the Philippines for the school year 2019-2020. The study also made use of the qualitative data gathered through focus group discussion to have an in-depth analysis of the perceptions of the teachers regarding their situation on teaching a subject that is not part of their expertise. The study revealed that teachers who are assigned teaching loads which are not part of their preservice training showed some confidence that they can teach their students well. This was shown on the question how confident they were in teaching their students to become critical thinkers and 8 or (66.67 %) of the total number of the teacher participants said that they exerted moderate effort in encouraging students to become critical thinkers. In addition, 5 or (41.67 %) of the teachers shared that they can do so much to help students improve in his failing grade. Surprisingly, 7 or (58.33%) of the total number of the teacher participants said that they can only exert moderate effort to help students who are having difficulty with the subject. Based from the findings of the study, the researchers thought that the perennial problem of teachers being assigned teaching loads that are not in line with their area of expertise should be given enough training and technical assistance coming from the school administration. This will help improve teachers in their pedagogical techniques and the type of assessment they employ in their classes.
