Abstract

Online learning platforms such as “Zoom” platform enable teachers who want to teach a second language like English without having to leave home, especially during the height of the (COVID-19) pandemic in the Kingdom of Thailand. The researcher investigated the readiness of English teachers for the employment of skills needed for online classes. The mixed method (quantitative and qualitative) research strategy was adopted in this study with the questionnaire as the main tool supported by interviews and observation. The data gathered researcher utilized the following statistical tools/formula: frequency, mean distribution, standard deviation, coefficient of variation, and t-test. 1. Thirty-one (31) to 40 years old have the greatest number of respondents; 48 out of the 90 or 53.3% of the respondents are female and 42 out of the 90 or 46.7% of the respondents are male, and most of the respondents are teaching Primary 1 and 2. conducting small-group projects in an online class is the most experienced challenge encountered by the teachers in teaching the English Language through the “Zoom” platform. The study's findings are considered helpful in increasing institutional support for faculty development plans that will help faculty members transition from traditional methods to virtual ones.

Abstract

This study employed communicative language education to assist a subset of a public school in Tondo, Manila, Philippines, especially the Junior High School Grade 7 students, in improving their English-speaking abilities. The researchers used the Direct Teaching Method to conduct a teaching and learning process (Pre-test). The students were then given a speaking test. Following the pre-test, the researchers started the teaching-learning process by teaching Communicative Language. After two months of using the communicative language education strategy, the researcher repeated the speaking test (post-test). Compiling the data and calculating the speaking test scores. The following statistical instruments were applied to the data collected for analysis and interpretation: t-Test: Two-Sample Assuming Equal Variances, Weighted Mean, Frequency and Percent Distribution, Standard Deviation, One-Way ANOVA [Single Factor], and the findings of the pre-test and post-test show a considerable improvement in the selected students' speaking ability. Task-based learning is excellent for cultivating language ability because it allows students to participate in natural conversation. The task-based approach gives learners a natural setting in which to utilize language. There are several opportunities for interaction while students try to finish an assignment. Such engagement is said to help with language development since it forces students to converse with one another and articulate their meaning.

Abstract

This study was based on the teacher's observations of the students' comprehension of questions, passages, and literary works during the listening session. One of the numerous reasons why listening comprehension is underestimated among the four macro skills is the lack of exposure to real-world content. Numerous listening resources also conflict with the students' real-world circumstances and past knowledge, making it difficult for them to stay involved in the course. This is the justification for the study's execution. In that situation, the researcher searched for strategies and listening practice materials to aid the students in developing their English listening comprehension abilities by turning to the content-based method for support and developed listening exercise materials that would aid in the English language learning of grade 8 children. Pre-experimental design with a single group pretest-posttest was the methodology employed in this study. Based on the pretest they took prior to the treatment, 100 eighth-grade students' listening comprehension abilities were evaluated. After that, a post-test was administered to gauge how well the treatment and content-based approach had worked. The researcher also used the following statistical software or formulas: Probability and percentage distribution, standard deviation, t-test, and weighted mean: Assuming Equal Variances for Two Samples.

Abstract

Technology is crucial to language learning particularly the English language and entails enormous potential. It is also clear that the evolution of technology in the present times has a significant impact on how well foreign language learners acquire their new language. As a result, the current study's objective is to give a meta-synthesis of research findings on student development activities published in prestigious academic journals. Eight 2020–2022 studies examined English language learning innovations. For a systematic review, the studies were grouped using the Critical Skills for Evaluation Program (CASP) checklist and PRISMA 2020 flow diagram. Thematic analysis identified four primary themes were: (1) Using multimedia technology for speaking, (2) Designing and delivering writing courses, (3) Internet-based listening and reading pedagogy, (4) Attending cramming classes. The study's meta-theme, dimensions of a student development activity, emerged. It is advised that teachers and students consider the following aspects of the student development activity in their regular English language study.

Abstract

Due to recent shifts in the laws regulating Thailand's educational system, more study has been done on teaching English to EFL Thai pupils. Finding the frequent distribution of these studies in terms of their topics, publication years, writers, groups, and research methods is the main objective of this study. 56 articles were selected as the sample because it was discovered that they were content-specific in the context of English Language Acquisition in Thailand. Data was collected using the Article Information Rubric, and it was processed using Microsoft Excel. The following are the study's major conclusions: "Methods and Strategies" is the subject of most articles written by ELT scholars. The frequent distribution of publication years has changed significantly. The majority of college students were chosen as the group using the random selection technique. Mixed study techniques were used in the majority of the investigations. Questionnaires and conversations were used by researchers to gather data. The most frequently used form of data analysis in these studies is frequency and proportion charts.
