Abstract

Da’wah Management program is designed to cultivate graduates who are proficient in managing religious institutions and contributing to various faith-based sectors. However, there remains a degree of uncertainty regarding the alignment between the program's academic focus and the career opportunities available in the job market. This study aims to explore alumni perceptions concerning the relevance of their education and the career prospects associated with a degree in Da’wah Management. Employing a qualitative approach, data were gathered through in-depth interviews with alumni from different graduating cohorts. The findings indicate that while some alumni consider their academic background relevant to their current roles, many encounter challenges in securing employment that aligns with their field of study. Among the key issues identified are limited job opportunities, a lack of public awareness and understanding of the discipline, and a curriculum that insufficiently addresses the development of digital competencies. Based on these insights, the study recommends fostering stronger partnerships between higher education institutions and relevant industries, enhancing the curriculum with practical, skill-based learning, and increasing outreach efforts to raise awareness of the professional pathways available to graduates of the Da’wah Management program.

Abstract

This study examines the management transformation of the Indonesian Ahmadiyya Community (JAI) in response to severe institutional pressures, primarily driven by the 2008 Joint Ministerial Decree (SKB 3 Menteri) and discriminatory local regulations. Employing the P-O-A-C (Planning, Organizing, Actuating, Controlling) management framework and organizational adaptation theory, the analysis focuses on JAI's mechanism for survival amidst legal stagnation and social stigma. The findings indicate that JAI achieved resilience through two core strategies: (1) Strengthening centralized internal management and focusing the actuating function on internal tarbiyat (spiritual training) to build members' psychosocial resilience. (2) Strategic external adaptation by shifting from theological dakwah (bil lisan) to humanitarian service (dakwah bil hal) under the Humanity First banner. While the humanitarian program successfully built a positive narrative and legitimacy, this strategy reflects a managerial trade-off: diverting resources from the core theological mission for survival, suggesting a strategic functional secularization. Theoretically, this study affirms that spiritual conviction serves as a crucial intangible asset for mobilizing human resources within a persecuted minority organization..

Abstract

Mosques historically serve as crucial centers for social and economic empowerment of the community (Ummah). However, the majority of Islamic philanthropic assets, particularly waqf (endowment), remain passive and fail to contribute optimally to economic development, especially when confronted with the rapid socio-technological changes characterizing the Disruptive Era. This study analyzes the entrepreneurial innovation model implemented by Jogokariyan Mosque in Yogyakarta as a structural solution for sustainable Ummah economic empowerment. The study’s objectives are to identify (1) the mosque’s productive waqf-based entrepreneurial innovation model, (2) institutional adaptation strategies during disruption, and (3) the model's impact on economic empowerment. A qualitative case study approach is employed, analyzing credible academic literature on mosque management and social entrepreneurship practices. Key findings reveal that Jogokariyan Mosque successfully implements an Islamic Social Entrepreneurship model sustained by diverse productive waqf assets (including Syariah Hotels, Agricultural Land, and a Bakery), thereby achieving institutional financial independence. Core innovations include revolutionary philanthropy governance (the Zero Balance Program) and disruptive adaptation strategies, such as the utilization of digital platforms and the marketing mix for incubating local Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) through the Jogokariyan People's Market (PRJ). This integrated model has successfully expanded job opportunities and increased the income of the local community. This research contributes a framework for a professional, accountable, and innovative institutional model that is replicable for the economic revitalization of mosques in a dynamically disruptive global context
