Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of the Kamishibai storytelling method in improving early childhood literacy skills among children aged 5–6 years. A classroom action research design was employed, consisting of two cycles conducted at TK Aisyiyah 16 Surabaya. Cycle I was implemented from February 12–13, 2024, and Cycle II from February 19–20, 2024. Each cycle followed the four core stages of action research: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The research involved 15 children from Group B1 and utilized participatory observation as the primary data collection technique. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistical methods based on literacy performance indicators, including the ability to appreciate reading, respond to story content, recognize narrative elements, and retell stories. The results demonstrated a substantial improvement in children's literacy development following the application of the Kamishibai method. In Cycle I, 13% of participants were categorized as Beginning, 47% as Achieving, and 20% as Exceeding. By Cycle II, no children remained in the Beginning category, while 66.67% were categorized as Achieving and 33.33% as Exceeding. These outcomes indicate that the Kamishibai method—when applied with appropriate storytelling techniques such as expressive voice, visual cues, and interactive engagement—can significantly enhance children's reading interest, comprehension, and narrative skills. The study contributes to the field of early childhood education by emphasizing the role of expressive, visual-based storytelling in fostering foundational literacy. However, limitations include the small sample size and single-site design, which restrict generalizability. Future research should explore the long-term impacts of Kamishibai through longitudinal and mixed-method studies in diverse educational settings. The findings support the potential of Kamishibai as an engaging and inclusive literacy strategy that integrates narrative structure with multimodal learning to support early language development.

Abstract

Rendahnya kemampuan anak dalam menggunakan gunting secara tepat disebabkan oleh terbatasnya kesempatan latihan serta penggunaan jenis gunting yang kurang sesuai dengan tahapan usia dan perkembangan anak. Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu untuk mengukur efektivitas gunting pegas dalam meningkatkan kemampuan menggunting anak kelompok A TK Kurnia Putra Benjeng Gresik. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) model Kemmis dan McTaggart dengan dua siklus, masing-masing terdiri dari dua pertemuan. Subjek penelitian adalah anak kelompok A di TK Kurnia Putra yang berjumlah 13 anak. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi dan dokumentasi. Teknik analisis data menggunakan statistik deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pada siklus II, yaitu kemampuan menggunting anak mencapai 88%, dibandingkan dengan siklus I sebesar 61% dan kondisi awal hanya 29%. Penggunaan gunting pegas terbukti efektif dalam memperbaiki posisi jari anak saat memegang gunting, meningkatkan koordinasi mata dan tangan, serta mendukung ketepatan dan kerapian hasil guntingan. Temuan ini memberikan implikasi praktis bagi guru PAUD untuk menggunakan gunting pegas sebagai strategi stimulasi keterampilan motorik halus anak melalui kegiatan menggunting.

Abstract

This research aims to improve the ability to recognize the number symbols 1-10 using the Stick Math educational game tool (ETG STIKMA). This research method uses a quasi-experimental design with a control group to test the effectiveness of using ETG STIKMA on the ability to recognize numbers. ETG STIKMA learning media has been tested by material experts and media experts who are experienced and competent in their fields. Data collection techniques use questionnaires and observation. The material expert's validation results were 80%, then the media expert gave a result of 97%, which means that the media and materials contained in STIKMA media are suitable for use to improve the cognitive abilities of children aged 5-6 years at Fatimah Az-Zahro Kindergarten. The effectiveness test results show that children's cognitive abilities in recognizing numbers 1-10 have increased by 10.50% with a positive rating of 210.00. So, this game is appropriate and efficient for improving cognitive abilities regarding the number symbols 1-10.
