Abstract

Generation Z is often perceived as having weak mental resilience, with high rates of mental health issues among adolescents. The I-NAMHS 2022 report indicates that one in three teenagers experiences mental health disorders, and 59.1% of Generation Z feels distressed. The primary causes include excessive technology use, stress, sedentary lifestyles, social pressure, and high expectations. Effective solutions, such as self-healing, are crucial for calming oneself, reducing stress, and enhancing comfort to improve mental health. This article discusses the concept of self-healing from an Al-Qur'an perspective through Q.S. Al-Baqarah verses 45 and 153, emphasizing prayer (salat) and patience (sabar) as means to achieve inner peace and strengthen the soul. This study employs library research with a qualitative-descriptive approach to analyze the concept of self-healing in the Al-Qur'an. Primary sources include the Al-Qur'an and Tafsir Al-Azhar by HAMKA, while secondary sources comprise relevant books and journal articles. The research findings demonstrate that in addressing mental health issues, particularly among Generation Z, the self-healing concept taught in Q.S. Al-Baqarah verses 45 and 153 is highly relevant. These verses teach the importance of patience and prayer in strengthening the soul, overcoming emotional burdens, and achieving inner tranquility. By applying the values of forgiveness, gratitude, self-compassion, and mindfulness through prayer and patience, individuals can enhance their mental well-being, face life's pressures with greater calm, and strengthen their emotional resilience.

Abstract

In the era of Society 5.0, the phenomenon of brain rot arises as a result of excessive consumption of shallow content on social media, hindering deep thinking and negatively affecting mental health. Surah Al-‘Ashr offers important insights into understanding this phenomenon through Fazlur Rahman’s theory of double movement, which analyzes the Qur'an in two contexts: micro (the reasons for the revelation) and macro (the socio-historical conditions). This study aims to apply this theory in addressing brain rot in the contemporary age. The research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a library research method. The theory of double movement is applied to analyze Surah Al-‘Ashr in response to modern challenges, such as brain rot, by integrating traditional and Western thought and providing a critical perspective on global issues. The findings reveal that the first movement encourages us to reflect on how the habit of consuming unproductive content wastes valuable time and harms intellectual capabilities. This phenomenon is similar to the habits of the Arab society during the time of 'Ashr, which often got caught in useless conversations that led to conflict. The second movement in Surah Al-‘Ashr emphasizes the importance of using time wisely, a universal principle that should be applied in daily life. The third verse teaches us to fill our time with beneficial activities, such as having faith, doing good deeds, and advising one another in truth and patience. In the digital context, addiction to shallow content can hinder intellectual development, much like harmful habits from the past. Surah Al-‘Ashr reminds us to use time wisely, focus on activities that enrich intellectual growth, and maintain emotional balance.

Abstract

Generation Z faces significant mental health challenges, with the 2022 I-NAMHS report indicating that one in three adolescents in Indonesia experiences mental disorders, with 2.45 million facing severe issues. Factors such as excessive use of technology, high stress levels, inactive lifestyles, and social pressure are the primary triggers of this problem. One approach to addressing these issues is self-healing, a concept focused on an individual’s ability to calm the mind, restore energy, reduce stress, and enhance emotional balance. This study employs a library research method with a descriptive-analytical approach, deeply analyzing QS al-Insyirah through the tafsir tahlili method. Hamka’s Tafsir al-Azhar serves as the primary reference to connect the spiritual values of the Qur’an with the concept of self-healing. The results show that two main principles in the interpretation of QS al-Insyirah, namely wisdom and reliance on Allah (tawakkal), are relevant to modern self-healing. Wisdom helps individuals develop a healthy mindset to face difficulties with serenity and gratitude, while tawakal teaches acceptance and trust in Allah’s decisions after maximal effort. This study emphasizes that integrating Qur’anic values such as wisdom and tawakal with modern self-healing concepts offers a holistic approach to strengthening mental health. These findings not only enrich theoretical insights but also provide practical Islamic guidance to address stress, trauma, and emotional challenges in modern society.
