Abstract

Poetry, as a literary work, plays a crucial role in voicing social concerns and national spirit. This study analyzes the poem "Hendak Kemana Negriku" by Eri Miyarto as a form of social criticism toward Indonesia’s post-independence reality. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the study examines the meaning, stylistic elements, and messages conveyed in the poem. The findings reveal that the poem expresses the poet’s disappointment with social inequality, poverty, and injustice that contradict the ideals of independence. Through emotional diction, repetition, metaphors, and rhetorical questions, the poet invites readers to reflect on the true meaning of independence and the importance of preserving nationalist values. The poem serves not only as a personal expression but also as a collective voice of the people regarding the unfulfilled promises of independence.
