Abstract

Market structure is a fundamental element in microeconomic studies that influences the interaction between business actors and consumers. From an Islamic perspective, market structure is not only assessed based on efficiency and competition, but also prioritizes the values of justice and transparency. This study aims to examine how Islamic economic principles are applied in various forms of market structures and their implications for the behavior of economic actors. With a qualitative approach based on literature studies, this article examines the concept of justice ('adl) and openness of information as the main pillars in forming a healthy market according to Islamic law. The results of the study show that Islam encourages the creation of a free market but is still ethically controlled so that there are no practices of exploitation, price manipulation, or misleading information. This finding strengthens the importance of regulations that are in line with Islamic values in forming a sustainable economic system that is oriented towards the common good.

Abstract

This study explores the evolution of Islamic economic thought from its classical roots to contemporary interpretations, highlighting significant paradigm shifts and the contributions of influential figures throughout its history. During the classical era, Islamic economic thought drew heavily from the teachings of the Qur'an and Hadith, as interpreted by scholars such as Abu Yusuf, al-Ghazali, and Ibn Khaldun. At the heart of this thinking are the principles of social justice, the prohibition of usury, and the need for a fair distribution of wealth. Recently, there have been important updates in Islamic economic thought, shaped by the global socio-economic context and the imperative to address modern economic problems. Key figures such as Muhammad Baqir al-Sadr and Umar Chapra have played an important role in developing a more relevant Islamic economic theory, combining concepts such as Islamic banking, macroeconomics, and entrepreneurship based on Islamic ethics.

Abstract

This study aims to explore public perceptions of urban spatial planning policies in addressing the impacts of urbanization in Medan. Data were collected using a 15-item Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed descriptively, using proxy factor analysis (PCA), and using cross-demographic difference tests. The initial sample size consisted of seven respondents. The results showed strong recognition of the impacts of urbanization, such as increasing land pressure, slums, and limited infrastructure. The majority of respondents also supported data-driven spatial planning to address these issues. However, there were doubts about the effectiveness of government land conversion controls, which were considered suboptimal. Nevertheless, these results demonstrate the importance of public participation in urban planning. The internal reliability of this study was relatively low, with a Cronbach's alpha value of -0.112, making the findings exploratory in nature. The researchers recommend that this study be conducted with a larger sample size and further testing to obtain more representative and valid results, as well as to delve deeper into public perceptions of urban spatial planning policies.
