Abstract

This study aims to describe the improvement of mathematical creative thinking ability of seventh grade students through the application of an Open-Ended approach integrated with the Effective Questions strategy. The study focuses on four key indicators of creative thinking: fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration. A quasi-experimental method was employed in this research, using a pretest-posttest group design. A purposive sampling technique was used to select one experimental class and one control class. Data were obtained through creative thinking ability test and interviews which were then analyzed descriptively and statistically. Statistical analysis was performed through a one sample t-test and N-gain. The findings indicate that integration the Open-Ended approach with effective questions strategy significantly improves students’ creative mathematical thinking, with details that (1) fluency and elaboration indicators increased in the high category (0.91 and 0.81), and (2) flexibility and originality indicators increased in the moderate category (0.61 and 0.38).

Abstract

The low mathematical literacy of Indonesian students based on PISA results necessitates innovation in mathematics learning. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of peatland-based digital comic media (Electronic comic of Peatland/E-colands) in improving junior high school students' mathematical literacy and to reveal the dilemma of improving mathematical literacy occurring in grades VII, VIII, and IX. The research method used was quantitative with a pretest-posttest group design. The research sample consisted of 23 grade VII students, 26 grade VIII students, and 26 grade IX students selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected through mathematical literacy tests in descriptive form and analyzed using descriptive statistics, followed by t-test and n-gain score analysis. The results showed that E-colands media was effective in improving mathematical literacy with a medium improvement category in all classes (n-gain: VII=0.68; VIII=0.41; IX=0.55). However, a dilemma was found where the significant improvement only changed the literacy criteria from low to medium in class VII, while classes VIII and IX remained in the low category even though their scores increased. This dilemma indicates the presence of cumulative learning loss, differences in psychological and motivational factors, and the need for longer and more integrated interventions for holistic mathematical literacy improvement.

Abstract

Low mathematical literacy among Indonesian students, as indicates by PISA results, highlights the need for innovative and contextual learning media that connect mathematics with real-life situations. This study aimed to develop and examine the feasility and praticality of E-Colands (Electronic Comic of Peatlands) as a mathematics learning medium for junior high school students in Central Kalimantan. The research employed a research and development method using the ADDIE model, limited to the Analysis, Design, Development, and Implementation stages. E-Colands was designed as a digital comic integrating matematical literacy tasks with peatland contexts encountered in students’ daily lives. Product feasibility was assesed through expert judgment by material and media experts using Likert-scale validition instruments. Practicality was evaluated through student response questionnaires administered to 75 students from grades VII, VIII, IX selected through purposive sampling. The results showed very high level feasibility, with validation scores of 91.25% form material experts and 89.29% from media experts. Students responses indicated good practicality, with an overall score of 80.49%, expecially in language clarity, media design, and ease of use. These findings suggest that E-Colands is a valid and practical learning medium to support contextual mathematics learning and enhance students’ mathematical literacy.

Abstract

Abstract:  Data visualization is an essential skill for Biology Education students in analyzing and communicating laboratory results scientifically. However, many students still experience difficulties in processing and presenting laboratory data effectively. This training aims to improve students' ability to visualize laboratory data in Biology Education through hands-on practice using spreadsheets. The method used is practice-based training with stages of planning, implementation, and evaluation. Evaluation of the activity was carried out through comparison of pre-test and post-test results as well as observation. The results of the activity showed an average increase of 18.65% in students' understanding and skills in using spreadsheet features to create data visualizations and interpretations. Thus, this training makes a real contribution to strengthening the competence of Biology Education students in carrying out laboratory work and preparing scientific reports.
