Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of using listening journals to students speaking ability. At this moment,researchers were used the listening journal to facilitate learning how to speak. The researchers tested whatthe effect of the treatment would be on students' speaking abilities. The participants consist of 10 male and15 female English education students of IAI Nusantara Ash-shidiiqiyah. Data was gathered using a test todetermine the students' speech level. This research was under descriptive quantitative, using a pre-experimental design with a center on the sort of one group pretest-posttest design. The information wasdisplayed by the significance of hypothesis testing which appears that the Sig. (2-tailed) the significance ofthe report is 0.000 less than the level of value 0.05. Therefore, the null hypothesis was rejected and thealternative hypothesis was accepted. Abstract

This study aims to describe or illustrate how to foster student character motivation in distance learning inthe digital era. Using a qualitative descriptive approach model carried out in this study using observation,interviews, documentation, and literature studies. The subjects in this study were 4th semester students at theOpen University. The conclusion of this study is to explain and describe the implementation of distancelearning in the digital era, so that in its development motivation and willingness are needed and so thatstudents have a character that motivates competence and is capable of digital literacy. And Komalasari,(2017 p. 83) formulated four guidelines in developing student character skills as follows: (1) there is a focusof attention given to life, in the sense of trying to direct people's attention to various aspects of their ownlives, so that they can identify the things they value; (2) there is acceptance that is in accordance with whatis, in the sense that when we pay attention to value clarification, we need to accept other people's positionswithout consideration, according to what is; (3) there is a stimulus to act further. Meaning, we need to domore as a reflection of values, rather than just accepting; (4) there is development of individual characterabilities. This means that with this approach, it is opened not only to develop students' skills in having valueclarification, but also to receive guidance to think and act further.Keywords: Cultivating character motivation, Distance learning, digital literacy

Abstract

Indonesia's cultural diversity requires serious preservation efforts in accordance with the constitutional mandate, one of which is reflected in the Tonjokan Tradition in Pangestu Village, Banyuasin Regency. This research focuses on analyzing the actualization of the acculturation of socio-cultural values in this tradition of dowry offerings to understand its existence amidst changing times. Using qualitative methods with a descriptive approach, data collection was conducted through observation, documentation, and in-depth interviews with traditional leaders and community members selected through purposive sampling. The research findings reveal that Tonjokan, brought by Javanese transmigrants since 1971, is a social mechanism in the form of food gifts as invitations to celebrations that applies to all levels of society regardless of social status. This tradition contains substantial values such as solidarity, mutual cooperation, respect, and strengthening ties. Furthermore, its implementation is proven to be in line with Article 18B paragraph (2) of the 1945 Constitution and Regional Regulation No. 2 of 2022 concerning the preservation of customs and traditions. It is concluded that the actualization of values in Tonjokan serves a vital function as a bond of social cohesion and a reference for adaptive multiculturalism, making its sustainability a crucial instrument in maintaining harmony and the cultural identity of the local community. ABSTRAK Keberagaman budaya di Indonesia memerlukan upaya pelestarian yang serius sesuai amanat konstitusi, salah satunya tercermin dalam Tradisi Tonjokan di Desa Pangestu, Kabupaten Banyuasin. Penelitian ini berfokus pada analisis aktualisasi akulturasi nilai sosial budaya dalam tradisi hantaran tersebut guna memahami eksistensinya di tengah perkembangan zaman. Menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif, pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi, dokumentasi, dan wawancara mendalam dengan tokoh adat serta masyarakat yang dipilih melalui purposive sampling. Temuan penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa Tonjokan, yang dibawa oleh transmigran Jawa sejak 1971, merupakan mekanisme sosial berupa hantaran makanan sebagai undangan hajatan yang berlaku bagi seluruh lapisan masyarakat tanpa memandang status sosial. Tradisi ini mengandung nilai-nilai substansial seperti solidaritas, gotong royong, penghormatan, dan penguatan tali silaturahmi. Selain itu, pelaksanaannya terbukti selaras dengan UUD 1945 Pasal 18 B ayat (2) dan Perda No 2 Tahun 2022 tentang pelestarian adat istiadat. Disimpulkan bahwa aktualisasi nilai dalam Tonjokan berfungsi vital sebagai pengikat kohesi sosial dan referensi multikulturalisme yang adaptif, sehingga keberlanjutannya menjadi instrumen penting dalam menjaga harmonisasi dan identitas kultural masyarakat setempat.

Abstract

The research of this study to explore and give a clear explanation and develop culture integrated EFL teaching learning classroom platform and curriculum for effective communication and understanding cross cultural from perspective of the teachers. This research was carried out through qualitative research with a case study design. This research used purposive sampling which is all English teachers (two English teacher in total) in SMK Ashiddiqiyah are four teachers. The instruments used in this research were observation and interviews. The data were collected by conducting semi-structured interviews with English teachers. The results of this research show that the English teachers recognize the significance of cultural understanding in EFL. They also face various challenges and use similar methods and materials to integrate culture into their classroom. The findings from this research highlighted EFL teachers can overcome challenges and integrate cultural understanding into their teaching by embracing resourcefulness and creativity. It's hoped that this research can provide views to English teachers and education practitioners in foster rich learning experiences that equip students to navigate the interconnected world with confidence and intercultural competence.   ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi dan memberikan penjelasan yang jelas serta mengembangkan platform dan kurikulum pembelajaran EFL (English as a Foreign Language) yang terintegrasi budaya untuk komunikasi dan pemahaman lintas budaya yang efektif dari perspektif guru. Penelitian ini dilakukan melalui penelitian kualitatif dengan desain studi kasus. Penelitian ini menggunakan purposive sampling yaitu seluruh guru Bahasa Inggris (dua guru Bahasa Inggris) di SMK Ashiddiqiyah berjumlah empat guru. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah observasi dan wawancara. Data dikumpulkan dengan melakukan wawancara semi-terstruktur dengan guru Bahasa Inggris. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa guru Bahasa Inggris menyadari pentingnya pemahaman budaya dalam EFL. Mereka juga menghadapi berbagai tantangan dan menggunakan metode dan materi yang serupa untuk mengintegrasikan budaya ke dalam kelas mereka. Temuan dari penelitian ini menyoroti bahwa guru EFL dapat mengatasi tantangan dan mengintegrasikan pemahaman budaya ke dalam pengajaran mereka dengan merangkul daya cipta dan kreativitas. Diharapkan penelitian ini dapat memberikan pandangan kepada guru Bahasa Inggris dan praktisi pendidikan dalam menumbuhkan pengalaman belajar yang kaya yang membekali siswa untuk menavigasi dunia yang saling terhubung dengan percaya diri dan kompetensi antarbudaya.
