Abstract

A clean and healthy lifestyle is vital in maintaining health, especially for school-age children. For example, washing hands regularly with soap can help prevent the spread of germs and diseases. Likewise, brushing your teeth properly at least twice daily can reduce the risk of dental and oral health problems such as cavities or gingivitis. The community service activities carried out aim to provide understanding and skills to students at elementary and secondary education levels in terms of washing their hands and brushing their teeth properly. For example, through interactive lectures, students can learn directly how to properly wash their hands. In addition, with demonstrations and direct practice, students can directly try the correct steps themselves. At SD Wonosari 2 Semarang, this activity was attended by 147 participants from various levels of education, such as SD Wonosari 2, SMP Negeri 28, and SMK Bina Nusantara. With the pretest-posttest evaluation method, the results showed that there was a significant increase in students' understanding and practice after participating in this educational activity. This shows how important education about a clean and healthy lifestyle is for the younger generation to prevent infectious diseases and maintain overall health.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of quiz competitions as an interactive learning medium to enhance students’ knowledge and understanding, particularly regarding humanitarian (Red Cross) education. The analysis shows that quiz competitions effectively improve students’ comprehension of humanitarian principles. Through this approach, students not only strengthen their cognitive abilities in understanding Red Cross concepts but also develop humanitarian values, discipline, and social responsibility. The data reveal a significant improvement in participants’ understanding after the competition. Before the event, 83% of participants were in the low category, 4% in the fair category, and 13% in the good category. After the competition, 75% of participants reached the fair category, and 25% achieved the good category. Contributing factors to this improvement include adequate learning preparation, understanding of the material through quiz questions, and strong intrinsic motivation to achieve. Therefore, quiz competitions can serve as an innovative and effective learning strategy to strengthen students’ knowledge, attitudes, and character development in both primary and secondary education settings.

Abstract

Among four language skills which are listening, reading, speaking and writing, reading is one of the most significant skills to be mastered by students in all grades. Reading gives students immense input of knowledge and information through various texts. Nonetheless, in the classroom, reading activities are long considered as monotonous and not interesting. Therefore, it becomes an urge for the teachers to apply more interesting technique to teach reading. In response to that matter, the teacher can use Numbered Heads Together technique as an alternative technique in teaching reading. This study explores the implementation of Numbered Heads Together in teaching descriptive text and describe the students’ reading comprehension in the implementation of Numbered Heads Together. The subject of this study were students tenth graders of MAN 2 Lamongan. This study is a qualitative case study which was conducted in two meetings. In the first meeting, the teacher just taught the descriptive text without any techniques. In the next meeting, the teacher introduced the technique and applied it in the class. The data of this study were collected from the result of the students’ task. The result of this study shows that the implementation of Numbered Heads Together assisted the students to engage actively in the whole process of learning. After using this technique, the number of students who got good achievement increased. It means that the students’ reading comprehension is improved after the implementation of NHT. In conclusion, NHT is a good technique to be used in teaching descriptive text, especially for the tenth grade students, since it helps them to overcome their difficulties in reading, creates a positive atmosphere in the class, and builds a good interaction for both the teachers and students.
