Abstract

This paper investigates the negative effects of social media on mental health, social interactions, and democratic processes, focusing on studies conducted between 2016 and 2023. The purpose of this research is to explore the various ways in which social media platforms contribute to issues like anxiety, depression, addiction, misinformation, and the decline in face-to-face communication. A systematic review methodology was employed, analyzing academic databases and peer-reviewed articles to identify the impact of social media on individuals and society. The results highlight how excessive use of social media exacerbates mental health problems, particularly in adolescents and young adults, fosters addiction, and promotes distorted views of reality, leading to body image issues and self-esteem concerns. Additionally, the study found that social media contributes to political polarization and misinformation, influencing public opinion and behaviors. In conclusion, the paper emphasizes the need for mitigating strategies, such as promoting digital literacy, supporting mental health awareness, and regulating content. These findings underscore the necessity of responsible social media use and further research to address its long-term societal effects.

Abstract

This research paper examines Germany’s leadership role within the European Union, drawing on European Leadership Theory alongside complementary perspectives from Neoliberalism and Neorealism. As the EU’s largest economy and a founding member, Germany occupies a pivotal position requiring the balancing of national priorities with broader European integration goals. The study aims to analyze how Germany’s leadership shapes and responds to the evolving political and economic challenges facing the Union. Employing a systematic literature review, the research analyzes secondary data collected from reputable academic databases such as JSTOR, Scopus, Web of Science, and official EU documentation portals, covering publications from 1990 to 2024. Using qualitative content analysis, the study explores Germany’s role through three theoretical lenses: the promotion of institutional cooperation and economic interdependence (Neoliberalism); power dynamics and strategic positioning within a competitive international system (Neorealism); and culturally sensitive, participative leadership that reflects European values of inclusivity and cohesion (European Leadership Theory). The findings reveal Germany’s leadership as multidimensional and adaptive, effectively combining soft and hard power to navigate contemporary challenges such as the Eurozone crisis, rising populism, Euroscepticism, and energy security issues intensified by the Ukraine conflict. Germany’s strategic engagement with EU mechanisms, including the European Stability Mechanism, underscores its commitment to stability and integration. In conclusion, the paper argues that Germany’s ability to integrate these theoretical frameworks into a cohesive leadership model is vital for sustaining EU unity, promoting deeper integration, and securing the long-term resilience of the European project.

Abstract

This study aims to explore and analyze strategies for enhancing the competitiveness of local products in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) through an approach that emphasizes their role in supporting sustainable tourism. Local products are regarded not only as vital economic assets but also as instruments for cultural preservation and the promotion of regional identity. A quantitative descriptive method is employed, integrating surveys of local business actors, analysis of secondary data related to trade policies and product development, and in-depth interviews with key stakeholders, including representatives from the Kupang City Trade Office. The findings reveal that several critical factors—such as improving product quality through innovation, adopting branding strategies rooted in local wisdom, and leveraging digital technology for marketing—significantly contribute to enhancing product competitiveness. These factors add value to NTT’s local products in both domestic and international markets. Moreover, strong collaboration among the government, business actors, and the community serves as a foundational pillar for the effective implementation of these strategies. The study also underscores the importance of continuous capacity-building programs for local entrepreneurs, product certification in accordance with national and international standards, and the integration of local products into tourism packages. These efforts not only boost the appeal of NTT's tourism sector but also positively impact the local economy by empowering communities. In the long term, the proposed strategies are expected to foster an inclusive and sustainable business ecosystem aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
