Abstract

This study aims to explore the principles of human behavioral change, the concept of repentance (tawbah), and the process of self-transformation from the perspective of the Qur’an. Employing a qualitative approach and utilizing library research methods, this study draws upon primary sources from the Qur’an and secondary data from relevant scholarly literature, including books, journal articles, and academic papers. The findings reveal that the Qur’an strongly emphasizes positive behavioral transformation as part of a profound spiritual process rooted in self-awareness, remorse for wrongdoing, and a sustained effort toward self-improvement. Tawbah serves as a central mechanism in this transformation process. In the Qur’anic view, repentance is not merely a plea for forgiveness, but rather a comprehensive process that includes sincere regret, a firm resolve to avoid repeating the sin, and an enhancement in worship and obedience to God. Self-transformation, as a consequence of genuine tawbah, reflects a fundamental shift that encompasses spiritual elevation, self-discipline, and the internalization of Islamic values in daily life. Therefore, behavioral change, repentance, and self-transformation are interrelated components in the formation of holistic human character according to divine guidance.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the urgency to reconstruct the understanding of Islamic ethics (akhlaq) based on the Qur'an, and to respond to the challenges of psychological crises through a spiritual approach. The aim of this research is to explore the concept of akhlaq in the Qur'an in depth and to explain its influence on mental health. This study employs a qualitative approach using library research methods, analyzing primary sources such as the Qur'an and classical and contemporary Tafsir, alongside secondary literature including scientific articles and previous studies. The findings reveal that Islamic akhlaq is not merely an ethical framework, but also serves as a protective mechanism that fosters psychological resilience. Individuals who embody virtuous character tend to experience greater emotional balance and mental stability, while those who exhibit immoral behavior are more susceptible to psychological distress. The novelty of this article lies in its integrative approach, bridging Qur'anic moral concepts with contemporary psychology. Here, akhlaq is positioned not only as an indicator of a healthy soul but also as an active instrument for building and restoring mental health. Consequently, these findings enrich theoretical discourse and offer practical contributions to the development of moral education and mental health policy grounded in spiritual values.

Abstract

In the modern era marked by ecological crisis and declining human values, the concept of fasad in the Qur'an needs to be re-considered in contemporary Islamic discourse. This study aims to examine the depth of the meaning of fasād in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:11) through Roland Barthes' semiotic theory approach. By tracing the layers of denotative, connotative, and mythological meanings, this approach reveals that the Qur'anic discourse on damage is full of complex and ideological meanings. This study uses a qualitative method based on literature study and a thematic interpretation approach (tafsir maudhu'i), by examining verses that discuss damage in various social, ecological, and spiritual contexts. The results of the study show that fasād, especially in QS. Al-Baqarah: 11, does not only refer to physical or material destruction, but also to deep moral and ideological damage such as hypocrisy, social disintegration, and ethical manipulation that are often disguised through the rhetoric of improvement (iṣlaḥ). Through Barthes' semiotic framework, the facade appears to function as a myth of legitimacy of power, which wraps the practice of exploiting resources and values in a constructive intention. This finding confirms that semiotic theory can enrich the treasury of Qur'anic interpretation by opening up critical interpretative space, and positioning the Qur'an as a living ethical reference that is relevant to the complexity of the modern era.
