Abstract

[The Mandi Safar tradition held every last Wednesday of the month of Safar by the people of Air Hitam Laut Village, Jambi, is one form of local cultural heritage that still lives today. This study aims to describe the Mandi Safar practice and analyze the meaning and cultural values contained therein. The approach used is a descriptive qualitative approach with Koentjaraningrat’s theory of the seven elements of culture as an analytical framework. Data were obtained through direct observation, in-depth interviews with traditional figures and students of the Wali Peetu Islamic Boarding School, as well as documentation and literature studies. The results of the study indicate that the Mandi Safar tradition is not only a form of ritual to ward off disaster, but also reflects a complex cultural system. Symbols such as a three-story tower, a sulapa eppa raft, sawang leaves with the verse “Salamun” written on them, and white cloth and eggs, contain religious, social, and aesthetic meanings that are passed down from generation to generation. Analysis based on Koentjaraningrat’s theory shows that this tradition includes elements of religious, social, knowledge, technology, language, and artistic systems that are actively carried out by the community. Thus, Mandi Safar deserves to be categorized as a local cultural heritage that has educational, symbolic, and collective identity values that need to be preserved.]

Abstract

Digital transformation has significantly impacted the development of the halal industry, particularly in the areas of certification, branding, and consumer trust. The concept of smart halal business emerged in response to market demands for transparency, efficiency, and innovation in managing the halal value chain. This study aims to analyze the role of digital innovation in supporting the sustainability of halal businesses through the integration of technology into certification systems, branding strategies, and building consumer loyalty. The research method used a qualitative approach with literature studies and descriptive analysis of best practices in Indonesia and globally. The results show that digitalization of halal certification, such as the use of mobile applications, blockchain, and big data analytics, can increase accountability and facilitate access for business actors. On the branding side, the use of digital marketing and e-commerce platforms expands market reach and strengthens the image of halal products. Meanwhile, digital innovation contributes to increased consumer trust through information transparency and more personalized interactions. This study confirms that the implementation of smart halal business not only supports the competitiveness of halal MSMEs but also strengthens Indonesia's position in the global halal industry ecosystem.
