Abstract

Hypertension is a chronic non-communicable disease that can lead to severe complications such as stroke and heart problems. A non-pharmacological approach like warm foot soak therapy offers a simple and effective method for lowering blood pressure. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of warm foot soak therapy on reducing blood pressure in hypertensive patients. Using a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest method, 13 participants with mild to moderate hypertension underwent a single 15-minute session of warm foot soak therapy. Blood pressure was measured before and after the intervention using a digital sphygmomanometer. On average, systolic blood pressure dropped from 180.15 mmHg to 157.77 mmHg, while diastolic pressure decreased from 101.08 mmHg to 96.08 mmHg. Most participants (92.3%) experienced a reduction in blood pressure. The findings indicate that warm foot soak therapy is effective in lowering blood pressure and can serve as a practical non-pharmacological nursing intervention in community health settings.

Abstract

Decreased physical function and accompanying diseases in the elderly will result in dependency and helplessness of the elderly. The role of family can make the elderly experience positive changes in their lives. The family has an informal role for the elderly, namely the family becomes a friend, caregiver, encourager, coordinator, and as peacemaker in caring for the elderly. Therefore, a community service program was carried out to find out family dysfunction in the elderly who live with their families. The study was conducted with pre-elderly and elderly in Musholla Al Anshor (Muslim prayer room), RT. 15, Gang Purnama Pasar Lama, Banjarmasin with 15 respondents. This community service was carried out face-to-face using APGAR family assessment, preparation of tools and rooms and the elderly. It was implemented using the APGAR (Adaptation, Partnership, Growth, Affection, Resolve). Family assessment questionnaire consisted of 3 categories, namely high family dysfunction (0-3), moderate family dysfunction (4-6), and low family dysfunction (7-10). The results of this community service program were obtained from all respondents who had APGAR assessment scores for families with low family dysfunction (100%), moderate family dysfunction (0%), and high family dysfunction (0%). It means that family functions still plays a good role in both the pre-elderly and elderly who live with their families.

Abstract

Daily prenatal care plays an essential role in maintaining maternal and fetal health and preventing pregnancy complications. However, its implementation remains suboptimal due to several influencing factors. This study aimed to examine the relationship between maternal age, education level, parity, and family support with daily prenatal care practices. A cross-sectional study was conducted from May to June 2024 at Berangas Public Health Center, involving 74 pregnant women selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and analyzed using Spearman’s rank correlation test. The research study shows that the majority of respondents were aged 20–35 years (86.5%), had education equivalent to senior high school or higher (56.8%), were in the at-risk parity group with 0, 1, and 3 live births (82.4%), and received adequate family support (82.4%). A total of 70.3% of respondents demonstrated good daily prenatal care practices. Significant positive correlations were found between age (ρ = 0.435, p < 0.001), education (ρ = 0.506, p < 0.001), and family support (ρ = 0.321, p = 0.005), while parity showed a significant negative correlation (ρ = –0.321, p = 0.005). These findings indicate that maternal education and family support are key factors influencing daily prenatal care behavior.

The success of maternal welfare and health efforts can be seen from the maternal mortality rate (MMR). The role of health workers is very influential and is a dominant factor. The well-being of mothers who successfully breastfeed from six months is described as their success in providing the best nutrition as a sign of concern for the child's safety. Breastfeeding is the best thing for babies because breast milk can provide adequate nutrition, according to the baby's needs apart from breast milk and is easily digested in the baby's intestines. Breastfeeding technique is an important thing in starting the mother's breastfeeding process for her baby, simply because the mother does not know the correct breastfeeding technique. It's true, for example, how to place a baby after breastfeeding can cause the nipple to feel sore, mothers need to learn to interact with the baby. Exclusive breastfeeding coverage in Indonesia in 2022 was recorded at only 67.96%, down from 69.7%, and requires intensive support from health workers. so that coverage can increase. The aim of the service is to increase the readiness of mothers in efforts to fulfill the welfare of breastfeeding mothers. The method used is teaching how to improve the baby's welfare, such as correct breastfeeding techniques, correct breastfeeding position, emptying the breast, signs that the baby is getting enough breast milk and the baby's attachment. Community service is carried out directly at the Berangas Banjarmasin Community Health Center with the flow of giving questionnaires before giving material, demonstrations, discussions and questions and answers. Keywords: Readiness, Pregnant Women, Welfare of Breastfeeding Mothers
