Abstract

English learning in the digital era requires the use of innovative and interactive learning media to improve the effectiveness of learning, especially in elementary schools. This study analysis the importance of developing interactive English learning media in elementary schools. The study used a qualitative method by conducting observations and interviews with teachers of MI 02 Mulyasari Majenang. The results showed that the learning media used were still one-way or not interactive. While many studies have shown that interactive learning media can make learning more interesting and effective. Therefore, interactive learning media are needed in English learning in elementary schools. One of the interactive media that can be used by teachers is media based on articulate Storyline 3.

Abstract

The limitations of technology-based interactive learning media, the low motivation of students to learn English, and the non-optimal utilization of computer laboratories at school are the background of the need for media development that supports learning. This study aims to determine the development process, feasibility, practicality, and effectiveness of interactive learning media based on Articulate Storyline 3 on the material “How Tall Are You?” in increasing the learning motivation of fifth grade students of MI Ma'arif 02 Mulyasari. This research uses a Research and Development (R&D) approach with the ADDIE development model which consists of five stages: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The development design is procedural and descriptive, referring to the opinions of Reiser and Mollenda. The subjects of this study were 42 fifth grade students. Data collection techniques included expert validation questionnaires, learning motivation questionnaires (pretest and posttest), and teacher and student practicality questionnaires. The instruments were prepared based on the ARCS Model theory by Keller (2010) and validated by two experts (media and material). The data were analyzed descriptively quantitatively, while the effectiveness was analyzed using the Paired Sample t-Test test through SPSS. The results showed that the media was in the very feasible category, with an average score of 4.6 from the material expert and 4.5 from the media expert. The practicality aspect obtained a score of 4.9 from teachers and 4.5 from students, both of which were in the very good category.Keterbatasan media pembelajaran interaktif berbasis teknologi, rendahnya motivasi belajar Bahasa Inggris siswa, serta belum optimalnya pemanfaatan laboratorium komputer di sekolah menjadi latar belakang perlunya pengembangan media yang mendukung pembelajaran. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui proses pengembangan, kelayakan, kepraktisan, dan keefektifan media pembelajaran interaktif berbasis Articulate Storyline 3 pada materi “How Tall Are You?” dalam meningkatkan motivasi belajar siswa kelas V MI Ma’arif 02 Mulyasari. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan Research and Development (R&D) dengan model pengembangan ADDIE yang terdiri dari lima tahap: analisis, desain, pengembangan, implementasi, dan evaluasi. Desain pengembangan bersifat prosedural dan deskriptif, mengacu pada pendapat Reiser dan Mollenda. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 42 siswa kelas V. Teknik pengumpulan data meliputi angket validasi ahli, angket motivasi belajar (pretest dan posttest), serta angket kepraktisan guru dan siswa. Instrumen disusun berdasarkan teori ARCS Model oleh Keller (2010) dan divalidasi oleh dua ahli (media dan materi). Data dianalisis secara deskriptif kuantitatif, sedangkan efektivitas dianalisis menggunakan uji Paired Sample t-Test melalui SPSS. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan media berada dalam kategori sangat layak, dengan skor rata-rata 4,6 dari ahli materi dan 4,5 dari ahli media. Aspek kepraktisan memperoleh skor 4,9 dari guru dan 4,5 dari siswa, keduanya berada pada kategori sangat praktis. Efektivitas media ditunjukkan dari hasil uji yang signifikan (p = 0,000 < 0,05), yang mengindikasikan adanya peningkatan motivasi belajar siswa setelah penggunaan media. Dengan demikian, media pembelajaran ini dapat menjadi solusi inovatif dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris dan mampu meningkatkan motivasi serta keterlibatan aktif siswa secara signifikan.
