Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of using atlas teaching aids on students’ learning interest in Social Studies (IPS) subject in Grade V at MI Miftah Assa’adah, South Tangerang. The research method used is an experimental method with a Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The research subjects consisted of two classes: a control class that used conventional teaching methods, and an experimental class that used atlas teaching aids during the learning process. The results of the study showed that the control class obtained an average final score of 52.13, while the experimental class obtained an average final score of 59.04. An independent t-test on the post-test data showed a significance value (2-tailed) of 0.001 < 0.005, which means there is a significant difference in students’ learning interest between those who used atlas teaching aids and those who were taught using conventional methods. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of atlas teaching aids has a positive and significant effect on increasing students’ learning interest in the Social Studies subject in Grade V at MI Miftah Assa’adah, South Tangerang.

Abstract

Students experience learning problems due to monotonous media usage in science lessons in fifth grade elementary school. This study created a water cycle diorama as a learning medium. Monotonous media usage causes students to lack motivation and fail to understand concepts properly. This study used the Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model. After being validated by subject matter experts and media experts, the developed media was tested on students. The validation results showed a very high level of feasibility, with subject matter expert scores of 78.5% and 93.8% and media expert scores of 72.9% and 80%. The diorama was able to visualize the water cycle process in an interesting and easy-to-understand manner, as indicated by the 88% response from students. The water cycle diorama is considered feasible, practical, and effective as a solution to overcome monotonous learning media and improve students' conceptual understanding and learning outcomes in Grade 5 science. Students' learning outcomes also increased significantly after using the media, as indicated by the increase in scores before and after learning.

Abstract

Background: The Holistic School Field Introduction Program (Program Pengenalan Lapangan Persekolahan/PLP Holistik) is a collaborative initiative between higher education institutions and partner schools aimed at integrating educational theory, field practice, and school environment empowerment. This holistic approach aligns with previous studies emphasizing contextual learning, digital literacy, and environmental-based education in primary schools. This study aims to describe the implementation and impact of the Holistic PLP through environmental development and school digital transformation projects. Methods: This study employed a qualitative descriptive approach based on field practice, with data collected through observation, documentation, and participatory evaluation involving the school community. The program was implemented at SDN Rawu through stages of initial observation, project planning, implementation, maintenance, and evaluation, grounded in contextual learning and sustainable education theories. Findings: The results indicate that the recycled-material-based vertical garden was successfully developed and utilized as a contextual learning medium, while the digital library system based on SLiMS Bulian 9.0 improved book collection management efficiency by up to 60% and enhanced teachers’ and students’ digital literacy. These findings demonstrate that integrating contextual learning theory with technology-based practices positively impacts the learning environment without significant adverse effects. Conclusion: The Holistic PLP program effectively enhances school environmental quality, student teacher competencies, and the sustainable use of educational technology. Novelty/Originality of this article: The novelty of this study lies in the integration of environmentally friendly projects and digital library development within a single Holistic PLP framework at the primary school level, an approach that has been rarely explored in previous PLP implementations.
