Abstract

Background: Anxiety is a psychological disorder in which individuals often experience recurring feelings of fear or worry, leading to loss of concentration and an inability to carry out daily activities effectively. As a result, elderly individuals may experience a decline in their level of independence in performing activities of daily living (ADL). Purpose: To determine the relationship between anxiety levels and the level of independence in ADL among elderly individuals with hypertension in Maruyung Village, Pacet District, Bandung Regency. Method: A quantitative study using a correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 65 respondents. Data were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed using the Spearman rank correlation test. Results: Nearly half of the respondents experienced minimal anxiety (30 respondents or 46.2%), while a small portion experienced severe anxiety (1 respondent or 1.5%). Regarding ADL independence, nearly half of the respondents were in the Independent category (29 respondents or 44.6%), and a small number were totally dependent (1 respondent or 1.5%). Conclusion: The Spearman rank test revealed a significant relationship between anxiety levels and ADL independence, with a p-value of 0.000 < α (0.05), indicating that the null hypothesis (H₀) was rejected. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is a very strong and statistically significant negative correlation between anxiety levels and ADL independence. This means that the higher the level of anxiety, the lower the level of independence among elderly individuals. Keywords: Activities of Daily Living; Anxiety; Elderly; Independence. Artinya, semakin tinggi tingkat kecemasan, maka semakin rendah tingkat kemandirian lansia. Kata Kunci: Aktivitas Kehidupan Sehari-Hari; Lansia; Tingkat Kecemasan; Tingkat Kemandirian.

Abstract

Background: Smoking behaviour among adolescent girls is a growing public health concern, influenced by peers, parental guidance, and social environment. These factors play a critical role in shaping norms and smoking habits. Purpose: To determine the factors related to smoking behavior among adolescent girls. Methods: A cross-sectional design was used with a total population of 76 female adolescents. Data were collected using a structured online questionnaire via Google Forms, measuring smoking behaviour and the influence of peers, parents, and social environment. Univariable analysis described respondent characteristics, while bivariate analysis using the Chi-square test examined the association between variables, with a significance level of p < 0.05. Results: The study found that 53.9% of respondents were active smokers. Bivariate analysis indicated that peer influence (p = 0.031) and social environment (p = 0.009) were significantly associated with smoking behaviour, whereas parental influence was not statistically significant (p = 0.131). Adolescents with influential peers and a permissive social environment were more likely to smoke. Conclusion: Smoking behaviour among female adolescents is significantly influenced by peers and social environment, while parental influence shows no significant association in this age group. Preventive interventions should focus on strengthening positive social influences and controlling environmental factors to reduce the risk of smoking among adolescent girls.
