Abstract

This study aims to determine efforts to improve mathematics learning outcomes in addition material using the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by Ballstick media for second-grade students at SBM Kepong Malaysia. The research method used was classroom action research with the Kemmis and McTaggart spiral model consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages conducted in two learning cycles. Data collection techniques were carried out through tests and non-tests using observation sheets and evaluation tests. The population in this study was 10 second-grade students, with a sample consisting of 4 males and 6 females at Sanggar Bimbingan Muhammadiyah Kepong Malaysia. Data analysis results used descriptive statistics with indicators of individual learning completeness, class average, and classical completeness. The research results showed significant improvement in learning outcomes from pre-cycle with only 10% student completeness (average 38) to cycle II with 90% student completeness (average 87), categorized as a very large improvement. This indicates that the use of Problem Based Learning (PBL) model provides a very significant improvement in the numeracy skills of second-grade students at SBM Kepong. These results prove that the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by Ballstick media is effectively proven to enhance students' understanding of addition concepts through concrete manipulation activities appropriate to the concrete operational stage characteristics of second-grade students at SBM Kepong Malaysia. Based on the implemented findings, the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by Ballstick media can be used by other teachers due to the significant improvement in addition material usage.
