Abstract

Passports are vital documents for cross-country mobility that require a high security system to prevent forgery. This study compares the security features of polycarbonate passports from Indonesia, the Netherlands, and Canada based on the ICAO Doc 9303 standard. The method used is qualitative descriptive-comparative through observation, literature studies, and interviews. The results show that the Netherlands and Canada have consistently implemented advanced security features such as laser engraving, kinegram, and encrypted chips, and are integrated with the ICAO Public Key Directory (PKD). Meanwhile, Indonesia still has different versions of passports and limitations in biometric data integration. This study recommends improving the design of the Indonesian passport by adding additional features and updating technical regulations.

Abstract

The enforcement of immigration law, particularly concerning the falsification of immigration documents, requires a comprehensive and structured approach to the management of evidence. This necessitates a thorough and up-to-date examination of immigration documents through the optimization of forensic laboratory facilities. Utilizing a literature review method, this journal aims to analyze the role and function of forensic laboratories in examination of evidence related to immigration crimes and to formulate strategies for optimizing the use of forensic laboratories. The findings indicate that the Immigration Forensic Laboratory holds significant potential in supporting the enforcement of immigration law. However, this potential has not been fully realized due to inadequate facilities, underutilization of VSC equipment at Immigration Checkpoints, and limited competence of human resources.
