Abstract

This study examines the traffic performance and Level of Service Index (LSI) of Jalan Khatulistiwa in Pontianak City, utilizing the Indonesian Road Capacity Guidelines (PKJI) 2023. The analysis incorporates primary data collected through traffic volume counts, side friction observations, and travel time surveys over three days, representing weekday and weekend conditions. Traffic volume is converted into passenger car units (PCU) using equivalency factors, and side friction is quantified based on the weighted occurrences of pedestrian activities, stopped vehicles, and vehicle entries and exits. The calculated road capacity under existing geometric and environmental conditions is 3026.8 PCU/hour, with a free flow speed of 40.641 km/h. The degree of saturation during peak hours reached 0.603, corresponding to Level of Service D, characterized by near-unstable traffic flow. Regression analysis demonstrated a strong relationship between travel time and traffic flow, with determination coefficients ranging from 0.7704 to 0.8964. The Level of Service Index (LSI) was further evaluated using both linear and nonlinear methods, producing consistent results. This research provides a technical basis for evaluating traffic performance, enabling engineers and planners to optimize traffic operations and inform future road network designs in urban environments.
