Abstract

Prolonged sitting habits among university students increase the risk of postural abnormalities such as forward head posture and rounded shoulders, which may lead to low back pain and reduced quality of life. The lack of postural awareness and limited preventive interventions on campuses are pressing issues to address. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of an educational and corrective exercise program consisting of back strengthening and mobility exercises on improving student posture. This study applied a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. A total of 30 students with ≥4 hours/day of sitting participated in a 4-week intervention program (3 sessions per week). Measured parameters included Forward Head Posture (FHP), Rounded Shoulder Posture (RSP), and the Postural Awareness Scale (PAS). Data were analyzed using paired t-tests. The results indicated significant reductions in FHP (mean decrease of 2.30 cm) and RSP (mean decrease of 7.2°), along with a significant increase in PAS scores (mean increase of 15.49 points) with p < 0.01. The program effectively improved both postural alignment and awareness. A combination of postural education and corrective exercises is effective in improving student posture. This intervention is recommended as a preventive and promotive approach to musculoskeletal health in university settings.

Abstract

Ankle injuries are among the most common injuries experienced by adolescent soccer players, often caused by poor stability and neuromuscular control. Ankle instability not only affects athletic performance but also increases the risk of recurrent injuries. One effective preventive and rehabilitative approach is dynamic balance training, such as the Star Excursion Balance Test (SEBT). This study aimed to analyze the effect of education and SEBT exercises on ankle stability enhancement in U-15 soccer players at SSB Mandiri Medan. This research employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pre-test and post-test approach, involving 20 male participants aged 13–15 years. The SEBT training program was conducted for four weeks, with a frequency of three sessions per week. Ankle stability was measured using reach distances in all eight directions of SEBT and the Cumberland Ankle Instability Tool (CAIT) questionnaire. Data were analyzed using a paired t-test to compare pre- and post-intervention results. The findings showed a significant improvement in SEBT reach scores (p < 0.05) and increased CAIT scores, indicating enhanced functional ankle stability. These results suggest that structured education and SEBT training can serve as an effective strategy for injury prevention and performance enhancement in young soccer athletes.

Abstract

Breast cancer and cervical cancer are two leading causes of death among Indonesian women, yet they are preventable through early detection. Tanjung Anom Village in Pancur Batu Subdistrict is a rural area with low health literacy, particularly regarding cancer screening. This community service aimed to improve women's knowledge and awareness through SADARI (Breast Self-Examination) training and IVA (Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid) examination. A community-based participatory approach was applied, involving health cadres, village leaders, and women of reproductive age as key participants. The results showed a significant increase in participants’ knowledge scores, from an average of 52.4 to 76.2 after the intervention. A total of 48 women voluntarily underwent the IVA test, and a Women's Health Working Group was established to sustain ongoing education. The emergence of local leaders and collective awareness reflects a successful health-based social transformation. This program has proven effective and can be replicated in other rural settings.
