Abstract

This study aims to improve the quality of learning at SD Negeri 060915, Medan Sunggal District, through the implementation of a participatory learning approach using Participatory Action Research (PAR). The background of the study is based on the low level of student engagement in classroom activities and the teacher’s reliance on traditional lecture methods, which hinder active student participation. This classroom action research was carried out in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and formative assessments. The results showed that the participatory learning approach had a positive impact on increasing student engagement, collaboration in group work, and academic performance, as indicated by an increase in the average student score from 66.4 in the first cycle to 77.2 in the second cycle. Teachers also improved their role as facilitators, and the classroom environment became more interactive and student-centered. The study concludes that the participatory approach is effective in creating an active, collaborative, and meaningful learning environment in elementary education.

Its existence serves as a means to deepen religious knowledge, improve Islamic understanding, and strengthen social and spiritual bonds within the community. Through continuous recitation and guidance activities, the Majelis Taklim becomes a flexible, inclusive, and easily accessible learning space for various levels of society, both men and women, young and old. This study aims to uncover the process of establishing the Majelis Taklim and analyze its impact on improving the religious and social quality of its members. The focus of the research is directed at the Majelis Taklim Mursyid Al Ikhwan as the object of study, to obtain an in-depth picture of the institutional dynamics, program activities, and the role of the Majelis Taklim in fostering the community. This study uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach, allowing researchers to understand the phenomenon comprehensively and contextually. Data collection was conducted through field observations to directly observe the Majelis Taklim activities, in-depth interviews with administrators and members to explore their experiences and views, and documentation as supporting data. The results show that the Majelis Taklim Mursyid Al Ikhwan plays a role as a center for religious guidance and sustainable da'wah development. In addition to holding regular religious studies, this Islamic study group is also active in external da'wah and Islamic education activities in the surrounding area. The active participation of the congregation and the commitment of the management are key factors in supporting the continuity and effectiveness of the Islamic study group in improving the religious and social well-being of the community. Abstrak Majelis taklim merupakan salah satu bentuk lembaga pendidikan Islam nonformal yang memiliki peran strategis dalam kehidupan keagamaan masyarakat. Keberadaannya berfungsi sebagai sarana untuk memperdalam pengetahuan agama, meningkatkan pemahaman keislaman, serta memperkuat ikatan sosial dan spiritual di tengah komunitas. Melalui kegiatan pengajian dan pembinaan yang berkesinambungan, majelis taklim menjadi ruang belajar yang fleksibel, inklusif, dan mudah diakses oleh berbagai lapisan masyarakat, baik laki-laki maupun perempuan, tua maupun muda. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap proses pendirian majelis taklim serta menganalisis dampaknya terhadap peningkatan kualitas keagamaan dan sosial para anggotanya. Fokus penelitian diarahkan pada Majelis Taklim Mursyid Al Ikhwan sebagai objek kajian, guna memperoleh gambaran mendalam mengenai dinamika kelembagaan, program kegiatan, serta peran majelis taklim dalam pembinaan umat. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif, sehingga memungkinkan peneliti memahami fenomena secara komprehensif dan kontekstual. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi lapangan untuk melihat secara langsung aktivitas majelis taklim, wawancara mendalam dengan pengurus dan anggota guna menggali pengalaman serta pandangan mereka, serta dokumentasi sebagai data pendukung. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Majelis Taklim Mursyid Al Ikhwan berperan sebagai pusat pembinaan keagamaan dan pengembangan dakwah yang berkelanjutan. Selain menyelenggarakan pengajian rutin, majelis taklim ini juga aktif dalam kegiatan dakwah eksternal dan pendidikan Islam di lingkungan sekitar. Partisipasi aktif jamaah serta komitmen pengelola menjadi faktor utama yang mendukung keberlangsungan dan efektivitas majelis taklim dalam meningkatkan kualitas keagamaan dan sosial masyarakat.
