Abstract

This study aims to explore the relationship between peer relationships and students' learning motivation in Grade XI at SMA Advent UNKLAB during the 2023/2024 academic year. The objective is to determine the levels of peer interaction and student motivation, as well as to examine whether there is a significant relationship between the two. A quantitative research method was used, involving statistical data analysis to investigate the connection between the variables. The results of the study, based on the research questions, indicate that the level of peer interaction falls into the high category, the level of student learning motivation is also in the high category, and there is a significant relationship between peer interaction (variable X) and learning motivation (variable Y), with a moderate correlation (r = 0.471) and a significance value of sig. (2-tailed) = 0.000. These findings are expected to provide valuable insights for the public, educators, and policymakers on how to optimize peer relationships to enhance students' motivation to learn.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) has created new opportunities and challenges in education, especially for future English teachers. While AI has been widely applied in language learning through adaptive platforms, chatbots, and mobile applications, concerns remain about its potential to compete with or even replace teachers. This study seeks to analyze the perceptions of English education students regarding AI’s role in English language learning and its implications for the teaching profession. The research employed a qualitative approach using semi-structured interviews with senior students of the English Education Department at Klabat University, who are preparing to graduate and enter the teaching field. Data were analyzed using content analysis to identify key themes. The results indicate that students generally view AI as a supportive tool that makes learning more accessible, flexible, and engaging. They recognize AI's strengths in providing practice opportunities, quick feedback, and personalized learning experiences. However, participants unanimously stressed that AI cannot replace teachers due to its lack of human qualities such as empathy, motivation, and emotional understanding. They emphasized the importance of teachers in guiding, inspiring, and addressing students' personal and affective needs, which remain beyond the capacity of AI to fulfill. The findings also reveal two major challenges: the need for teachers to continually adapt to technological changes and the risk of students becoming overly dependent on AI. This study contributes to the growing discussion on digital challenges in teacher education, offering insights into how prospective teachers envision striking a balance between AI and human educators in the digital era.

Abstract

A translator should be able to convey the intended meaning contained in the source language into the target one. The results of the initial observation depicted that some students in the translation class tended to translate without reading the whole text that might lead to misunderstanding of source text. This study aimed at analysing the problems faced by the student translators in translating the good Samaritan’s story from English language into Bahasa Indonesia. This study used a descriptive method. The participants were the 4th Year English Department students who took the course of Linguistic 3 as their major course. The data were taken from the Christian Biblical story in Luke 10:25-37. The data were analysed using a translation procedure. The results indicated that there are ten of problem found in the students’ translation, which are the improper use of generalization technique, improper of borrowing technique, missing the target language structure, meaning deletion, improper use of literal technique, context misunderstanding, target language interference, meaning addition, inability to find right equivalent, and source text misunderstanding.

Abstract

This research was aimed at discovering the kinds of pronunciation errors made by the nursing students of Universitas Klabat in Pre Intermediate 1 class of 2025/2026 academic year. It is a descriptive quantitative method by involving 20 students from the total population of 40. Pronunciation test and interview were used as the research instruments. In this research, the researcher used 10 sentences for students to read. Every sentence has its specific English word with silent letter which became the target word to find out if the student could read them well. Every silent letter will only appear once in every sentence and the students were not allowed to repeat their pronunciations. The results of the research clearly showed that the students were preconditioned to make two kinds of errors, which are pre-systematic errors and systematic errors. The pre-systematic errors occurred more frequently than the other one. The highest errors made by the students were silent letters “l” (e.g. talk) and “p” (e.g. pneumonia) where numbers of errors for both letters were 30 (50%) out of 60 errors. The conclusion could be that the students faced difficulties when pronouncing words that are normally rare in use in their daily English practices and also because the students do not have good skills.
