Abstract

Career transition is a process of transition from school education to adulthood that involves various processes of needs, skills and knowledge to prepare students with disabilities to enter the world of work. However, the career transition program is not new, but there are still a few lecturers who do not understand the implementation of the program and lack preparation and knowledge in the management of the transition program. This study explores the readiness of lecturers in the implementation of career transition for students with special needs. A semi-structured interview session was conducted with six northern community college participants under the management of the special education department. Findings show that various factors influence the implementation of career transition management for students with disabilities. The knowledge of lecturers in managing career transition programs is still lacking. In addition, there are challenges in collaboration with stakeholders to understand the importance of the career transition of students with disabilities for future marketability. Finally, this study provides significant findings that need to be followed and used as reference material by other researchers in the future.

Abstract

In Malaysia, adolescents are at a high risk for depression, with the prevalence rising from 18.3% in 2017 to 26.9% in 2022. Additionally, the proportion of female adolescents affected is significantly higher than male adolescents, with 36.1% of females experiencing depression compared to 17.7% of males. Thus, a qualitative study was conducted to explore the emotion regulation strategies used by female adolescents experiencing depressive symptoms. Semi-structured interviews were performed with 15 female adolescents, aged 14 to 16 years, who had severe depression scores as assessed by the DASS-21. Using purposive sampling, all 15 female adolescents were selected from six public secondary schools in the Klang Valley, Malaysia. The Klang Valley, which includes the two main states of Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, was chosen due to its ranking among the top three states in 2022 with the highest rates of depression symptoms. All responses were recorded and analyzed using a thematic analysis approach. The findings revealed that female adolescents employed five emotion regulation strategies: suppressing expression, pampering themselves, seeking support, reorganizing their thoughts, and engaging in negative actions. This study explores the emotional experiences of female adolescents to design feasible and flexible interventions that address a wide range of individual needs.

Abstract

Physical fitness is a critical determinant of health, development, and well-being for children with special educational needs (SEN), yet their participation in physical activity remains limited due to physical, social, and institutional barriers. Although adapted physical activity (APA) interventions have been widely investigated, the global evolution of research on physical fitness among children with disabilities has not been systematically mapped. This study conducts a bibliometric analysis of Scopus-indexed publications from 1964 to 2025 focusing on school-aged children (approximately 5-12 years) with physical, intellectual, sensory, and developmental disabilities. Studies unrelated to physical fitness or exercise outcomes were excluded. A total of 536 documents were analyzed using Scopus Analyzer, Microsoft Excel, and VOSviewer to examine publication trends, document types, country productivity, authorship patterns, collaboration networks, keyword co-occurrence, and bibliographic coupling. The inclusion of 2025 records reflect early-access indexing at the time of retrieval. Results indicate substantial growth in research output, particularly after 2016. Research is predominantly concentrated in high-income Western countries. Established themes center on rehabilitation and motor performance, while emerging topics include inclusion, adaptive sports, and psychosocial outcomes. Findings should be interpreted cautiously due to reliance on a single database and English-language dominance.
