Abstract

The rapid development of the construction industry and the increasing complexity of projects demand more effective, efficient, and integrated planning methods. Building Information Modeling (BIM) emerges as a technological solution capable of digitally integrating design and construction processes to produce more accurate information. This study aims to compare work volume and cost estimation of the Rectorate Building construction project at the University of Technology Sumbawa using both conventional and BIM methods. A comparative approach was employed, utilizing Autodesk Revit as the 3D modeling instrument. The cost estimation was based on the 2012 Unit Price Analysis (AHSP) of Sumbawa Regency. The results showed a cost difference of Rp 80,656,000 or approximately 4.8%, with BIM providing a lower estimate than the conventional method. This difference reflects BIM’s superiority in accuracy of quantity calculation and material efficiency, supported by three-dimensional visualization and early design conflict detection. Therefore, it can be concluded that BIM is more effective in supporting cost planning and can be relied upon as a modern approach in construction management.
