Abstract

Social media has become one of the most widely used online platforms by the public today. Its usage is no longer limited to teenagers but has extended to older adults as well. The widespread adoption of social media has led to significant changes in culture, mindset, and behavior within society. The aim of this study is to examine ethical behavior in the use of social media and to identify the impacts of its usage. This research employs a qualitative method by analyzing ethical considerations in social media practices through the lens of the film Budi Pekerti. The study adopts a critical paradigm, which serves as an analytical framework to assess, reflect on, and interpret a particular reality. The findings suggest that in Budi Pekerti, the case involving a school counselor (BK teacher) illustrates how a viral video can have profound personal and social consequences. This underscores the potential harm that social media can cause to individuals, highlighting the importance of ethical conduct in online interactions. Consequently, it is crucial for users to engage responsibly on social media and to refrain from hastily spreading unverified or misleading content.

Abstract

Globalization have encouraged higher education institutions to undertake internationalization. However, its implementation still faces challenges at the academic, governance, and facilities and infrastructure levels. This study aims to investigate internationalization at the State-owned Islamic Higher Education Institution (PTKIN), specifically at the Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. Using a descriptive quantitative approach, this study analyzes the relationship between internationalisation strategy and dimensions to internationalisation programs and activities in the university studied. Data were collected through a survey to university and faculty leaders, study program managers, and educational staff. The results show a positive and significant relationship between internationalization strategies and dimensions with internationalization. Other findings demonstrate the consistency of internationalization efforts at UIN Sunan Kalijaga in terms of HEIs governance, academics, research, and student affairs. In addition, this study identified three challenges faced by UIN Sunan Kalijaga as a consequence of changes in internationalization priorities at UIN Sunan Kalijaga, namely budget availability, staff/lecturer competence, and facilities/infrastructure supporting internationalization. This study suggests four recommendations, namely collaboration between institutions, establishment of international classes, provision of supporting facilities and infrastructure, enhancement of the number and amount of budgets for international publication/research, and improvement capacity for lecturers/staff.

Abstract

This study examines the role of power and religion in disciplining State Civil Servants (ASN) in the Palembang City Government, South Sumatra Indonesia, by taking the case of the Fajr Congregational Prayer Movement. The study is relevant due to the widespread indiscipline practices among Indonesian State Civil Servants and the use of religious approach to ASN’s disciplinary. Using qualitative research approach, data in this study obtained through in-depth interviews with government officials, ASN, and religious leaders; and content analysis of online news, Facebook, and Instagram posts. Foucault’s theory of disciplinary mechanisms was applied as analytical framework. Results of this study showed that the Government integrated religious doctrine and piety control as disciplinary instruments. This approach introduces a new dynamic in monitoring civil servant behaviour, differing from conventional bureaucratic practices. The research offers a new perspective on the relationship between power, religion, and bureaucracy while enriching discussions on variations in disciplinary mechanisms within the context of a majority Muslim country. The findings also suggest avenues for further research on the effectiveness of religious approaches in bureaucratic reform.
