Abstract

Political preferences are an important aspect for someone to be able to participate well in a democratic system. Based on certain political preferences, a person will have reasons and foundations for their political behavior and choices, including first-time voters. Therefore, understanding aspects of its formation is important to understand their initial understanding before being directly involved in political spaces such as elections. This paper aims to show the important role of citizenship education in influencing the formation of initial political preferences of novice voters. Based on qualitative research conducted in Sumedang City in 2020 on first-time voters who were high school students, it was found that the formation of their initial political preferences was not only influenced by parental preferences as previously believed. They get information regarding their initial views on politics through civics education materials. Information from television and social media related to standards and values in behaving as citizens among other citizens has given them an initial understanding of the importance of participating well in the context of life, including at the start of general elections. This makes citizenship education a space for socialization as well as political education for novice voters. This understanding then becomes one of the basics for developing their understanding of politics and how they should behave as good citizens in a democratic system.

Abstract

Local elites play a central role in regional development, yet the existing literature is fragmented on the economic and political aspects of electoral politics without providing a comprehensive explanation of their capabilities in creating high-performance governance and holistic development achievements. This study aims to analyse the multidimensional role of local elites in building collaboration and mobilising community participation to achieve quality governance. Using a systematic literature review method guided by PRISMA, this study analysed 10 selected articles from the Scopus database identified through the keywords "local elites", "regional development", and "political participation". The findings reveal that local elites are not a single entity, but rather a collaborative network of political, economic and religious elites. Each acts as a change agent, facilitator, mediator and resource enabler. The synergy between these elites, facilitated by effective communication and visionary leadership, is key in creating collaborative governance and increasing community participation. However, this study has limitations due to the limited scope of the literature and does not involve primary empirical data. The implication is that governments and stakeholders need to recognise the complex role of local elites and encourage collaborative leadership models involving formal and non-formal elites to improve accountability and effectiveness of local development.

Abstract

Defense education plays a strategic role in shaping a strong national defense posture that is responsive to military and non-military threats. This article examines the vital role of defense education in strengthening Indonesia's national security system amidst the ever-evolving global and regional dynamics. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, this study highlights the contribution of defense education in increasing national defense awareness, strengthening national identity, and fostering synergy between civilian and military components within the framework of national resilience. In the era of information disruption and multidimensional threats, defense education is the main foundation for building collective community awareness against ideological infiltration, foreign propaganda, and increasingly complex cyber threats. The research findings show that defense education integrated into the national education system functions as a strategic instrument to instill national values, patriotism, and national preparedness from an early age. Therefore, optimizing the curriculum, improving the quality of training, and expanding the scope of defense education programs are the main keys to building an adaptive and sustainable national security ecosystem. In addition, the importance of innovation in teaching methods, utilization of digital technology, and active involvement of civil society are supporting factors in expanding the reach and effectiveness of defense education. This study concludes that defense education is not merely an institutional need, but rather a long-term strategic investment for Indonesia's stability, sovereignty, and national resilience in the future.

Abstract

The lack of application of Pancasila values, especially among the current millennial generation, shows the weak implementation of Pancasila values in people's lives. This writing uses a literature study approach by utilizing facts and supporting sources, such as ebooks, articles and a number of related journals. The meaning of Pancasila, its application in everyday life, and examples of its application in various aspects of life are explained according to known facts. This article aims to study how humans organize their daily lives by applying Pancasila as a guide to life. It can also be a guide for the community on how to apply Pancasila values into everyday life and make people aware of the importance of Pancasila, so that it can also be a guide in implementing it in various aspects of life
