Abstract

This research describes the internationalization strategy of Topeng Malangan applied by Padepokan Asmorobangun in the context of its participation in the International Mask Festival (IMF) in 2023. The main problem of this research focuses on how the traditional art of Topeng Malangan can adapt and be accepted in the international arena without losing its authentic values, with the argument that the right adaptation strategy can maintain the essence of local culture while attracting global audiences. Using a qualitative approach with a case study method, the results show that Padepokan Asmorobangun applies several adaptive strategies in internationalization, including: simplification of the duration of the performance from 9-10 hours to 10 minutes without losing the authentic essence, reduction in the use of verbal language, emphasis on characterization patterns through intensified movements and expressions, and selection of the story “Sayembara Adu Jago” which has universal values. Despite facing significant challenges in terms of funding and limited preparation time, participation in the International Mask Festival (IMF) 2023 has had a positive impact in the form of expanding international cooperation networks and increasing Padepokan Asmorobangun's reputation in the global arena. This research concludes that international festivals can be a strategic platform for cultural diplomacy and the internationalization of traditional arts, with adaptability and innovation being key success factors in introducing local cultural heritage to the global stage without losing the basic elements of Topeng Malangan.

Abstract

The problem of organic waste management in Rejoso Kidul Village, Pasuruan Regency lies in the community's continued use of conventional methods such as waste piling and burning, which pollute the environment and diminish the potential economic value. This study aims to analyze the process of community empowerment in organic waste management through maggot (Black Soldier Fly) technology using a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, to identify factors influencing the program’s success and its impact on enhancing community capacity. The research method employs the PAR approach, positioning the community as active subjects in the research process over a 40-day period (June 16–July 25, 2025), involving village officials, neighborhood leaders (RW), village youth, farmer groups, and housewives as research participants. The research stages include orientation, planning through Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), implementation through socialization, and data collection through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The findings show that maggot technology offers significant advantages over conventional methods, as it can reduce waste volume by 80– 90% within 10–15 days, produce economically valuable products such as high-protein animal feed and organic fertilizer, and is environmentally friendly without emitting harmful gases. The PAR approach successfully increased community enthusiasm and awareness regarding waste management, although it still faces challenges such as limited technical knowledge, which are addressed through capacity-building strategies and the development of marketing networks.
