Abstract

Introduction: Falling is one of the most important symptoms and the main etiology of morbidity and mortality for the elderly aged 65 years. In the elderly who are at risk of falling, stretching (flexibility) and balance exercises are recommended in the physical activity program. This literature review aims to identify whether walking exercises are effective in reducing the risk of falling in the elderly and to find out whether walking exercises can train muscles and balance in the elderly.Method: The method used is scoping review. Literature searches were obtained from several databases of Cinahl Plus, Pubmed, and Springer by applying the keywords "elderly, walking exercise, physical mobility improvement" which were developed using the PICO method. Six articles were obtained for analysis according to PRISMA guidelines in the process by setting inclusion criteria. Results: The results of the scoping review showed that all 6 articles had elderly respondents (n= 242) consisting of healthy elderly (n=186) and elderly with a history of illness (n=52). Walking exercises applied to the elderly have proven effective in increasing muscle strength and balance in both healthy elderly and elderly with a history of illness. Conclusion: Walking exercise is effective as a non-pharmacological intervention in the elderly with a risk of falling. Interventions applied in several experiments have been shown to be able to train muscle strength and balance in the elderly

Abstract

Family is the main environment in the process of forming a child’s personality, where a good personality results from a good upbringing and education from both mother and father. However, the presence of a father figure is often not felt. Fatherless is the absence of a father’s role and presence in parenting, which occurs due to a particular reason. Objective: This study aims to determine the overview of fatherless in adolescents at SMAN X Bandung. Method: This study is a descriptive-quantitative research using a proportionate stratified random sampling technique, conducted on 291 students of SMAN X Bandung. The research data were measured from The Father Presence Questionnaire (FPQ), which has been translated into Indonesian, with the validity test count of 0.303 - 0.819 and Cronbach’s Alpha of 0.958. The data were analyzed univariately using frequency distribution and percentages. Results: A total 120 students (41.2%) are at high risk of experiencing fatherless, while the other 171 students (58.8%) are not at risk and receive adequate father’s role. Conclusions: The father’s role and presence for students is still necessary to be improved by holding a parenting class, training, and seminar, as these will have a positive impact on the student’s psychological development.
