Abstract

Ethnic and cultural diversity in modern society has become increasingly complex due to the influences of globalization, urbanization, and migration, resulting in multicultural communities. This diversity, while offering opportunities for mutual understanding, often gives rise to tensions, prejudices, and even conflicts between groups, especially when cultural identities are contested. In such circumstances, religion plays a significant role as a social pillar that can embrace differences. However, if applied exclusively, religion also has the potential to become a source of conflict. Therefore, inclusive theology, which prioritizes acceptance of differences without compromising religious teachings, becomes a relevant solution to bridge these tensions. Inclusive theology not only encourages intercultural dialogue but also promotes peace and solidarity by emphasizing love, tolerance, and respect for the dignity of every individual. In the context of the church, inclusive theology serves as an agent of peace actively addressing issues of ethnic discrimination and cultural injustice. This study aims to explore the application of inclusive theology in responding to ethnic and cultural conflicts in multicultural societies, using a qualitative approach and Ricoeur's hermeneutic analysis. It is expected that this research will contribute to fostering harmony and reconciliation amidst existing diversity.

Abstract

This paper explores the authority of spiritual leaders (pastors) within the Christian church, particularly in the Protestant tradition, with a focus on the boundaries of their authority and the congregation’s responsibilities. Through a study of biblical texts, theological articles, and the insights of church leaders, the author examines how authority is understood as a delegated mandate from God, yet remains constrained by Scripture. The analysis reveals three key findings: (1) spiritual leaders must emulate Christ’s model of leadership as servant and example; (2) their authority is limited and accountable to both the congregation and God; and (3) congregants are called to honor, obey, and, when necessary, rebuke leaders in a proper manner. The study concludes that spiritual authority is a blessing when exercised according to Scripture, but carries the risk of abuse when left unchecked. Keywords: pastor, Christian leadership authority, church, congregation, pastoral ministry   Abstrak Tulisan ini membahas otoritas pemimpin rohani (gembala) dalam gereja Kristen, khususnya tradisi Protestan, dengan fokus pada batas‐batas kewenangan dan tanggung jawab jemaat. Melalui kajian literatur Alkitab, artikel teologis, dan pandangan para pemimpin gereja, penulis mengeksplorasi bagaimana otoritas dipahami sebagai amanat Allah yang delegatif, namun tetap dibatasi oleh firman. Analisis menunjukkan bahwa otoritas gembala lahir dari karakter saleh dan tanggung jawab melayani jemaat, didukung prinsip bahwa Kristus adalah Kepala Gereja.Hasil kajian menegaskan tiga temuan utama: (1) pemimpin rohani harus meneladani model kepemimpinan Kristus sebagai pelayan dan teladan, (2) otoritas mereka dibatasi dan harus bertanggung jawab di hadapan jemaat dan Allah,dan (3) jemaat dipanggil untuk menghormati, menaati serta menegur pemimpin secara tepat. Tulisan ini menutup dengan kesimpulan bahwa otoritas rohani adalah berkat ketika digunakan sesuai Alkitab, tetapi berpotensi menjadi penyalahgunaan ketika lepas kendali.
